Ah don't get me started on TK. Least favorite Pen of the modern era. Always tried to Mario his was through the neurtal zone, go wide, miss a wide angle shot by a mile, break out for the other team. - sammy87
Please... I'd take him over Sill, Glass, or Adams anyday. |

So I guess Sutter, Beau, and Doumo wasn't cutting it for the Jets.

I think this is a good deal for the Jets.
They'll be super deep. Got bigger. Grittier. Got some pups... |

I think Colligan had Kunitz, Bennett, and Despres. I wouldn't want that move.

Just throwing this out there.....
If the Pens were to bow out early in this years playoffs (obviously knock on wood) does this Kane deal spark any intrigue as to what exactly the Pens could acquire for Geno? I've never entertained the thought until seeing this deal. Just sparking convo. |

Adding Bogosian increased it. He's a young, talented d-man. Jets had to add something or they weren't going to get as good of a deal. |

Trade now official.. Buffalo gave up its lowest of the 1st round picks it has in the trade. If they get McDavid and have Kane for that wing... that could be a fast track to the playoff route. |

Perron 3.8 , Sid 8.75 Hornqvist 4.25
Kane 5.25, Geno 9.5, Kunitz 4 million
That is 35 million right there alone. Perron will also need an extension after next season. Add that to MAF 5.75 and Letang 7.25 and you have 48 million alone with the top two lines, top dman and goalie. As of now the cap doesn't look like it's rising that much if at all next year. That leaves us with 6 forwards, 5 defenseman and a back up goalie to sign at least. Don't forget Maatta, Despres will need new contracts soon as well with the rest of our prospect D right behind them. - znagle
You are only mentioning the high paid players, the Pens have some smaller cap hits on the books for next year as well. When you add all of those and think of the positions remaining to be signed, the Pens would have plenty of cap space next year.
Bettman has said that the Cap should rise to $73 million and maybe if the Canadian $ keeps getting worse, they may have to go to $72 million, but that would be the lowest. Where are you seeing that the cap might not rise?
Perron-Crosby-Hornqvist
Kunitz-Malkin-Kane
Spaling-Sutter-Dupuis
Open-Open-Open

Letang-Maatta
Despres-Open
Scuderi-Pouliot

Fleury

That leaves one big cap hit player to sign (4th D) the rest should all be smaller cap hits and the Pens would have $9.35 or $8.35 million to fill those spots. A lot of those spots would be contracts in the $600,000 - $800,000 range.
Personally I would not go after Kane, but it really wouldn't be that illogical to make him fit. Just saying. EDIT(guess that is irrelevant now anyways) |

Winnipeg will now trade one or two of those prospects to acquire another scoring winger for the playoffs. |

I get your point here but you're overthinking. You make cap space to fit in a guy like Kane. Kunitz and/or Dupuis come off the books and you have a replacement player who is a little more money and much younger. |

Oh dear god no. Stafford has been traded. Now some Penguins fans will have to obsess over acquiring some other underachieving forward that can saved by Crosby and Malkin. |

Stewart is still there! lol
Back to the Bergenheim, Winnik, Jagr, Tlusty talk..
I don't want to trade Beau, but another scratching, why not discuss? Any youngish high draft pick forward out there struggling right now that would make sense straight up? Kassian and Etem were brought up before...anyone else? |

Yeah, you could obviously trade a decent sized cap hit and it really isn't an issue, but I am just saying even if you didn't move a big contract it still works. I just don't understand these people who seem to think the Pens are in a bad cap situation going forward. |

I think pitt did alright on the Neal deal. Pitt wanted imediate help. The jets got short term ( Stafford) help and long term help and cap space next year. Next year it's realistic that only Myers (maybe Armia on spot duty) are playing with the jets while Bogo and Kane are in Buffalo |

The more I see these trade proposals, the more I think we'll be better off staying pat and riding it out. At some point, you have to stop sending draft picks out the door.
The only kind of moves I'd like to see them make would be sending Sutter and/or Spaling out for salary-equivalent more physical players. Similar to the Goc-Lap deal.
Btw...anyone catch what Barkley said about the Houston Rockets and analytics? Couldn't have agreed with him more. |

Kane > Neal in both ability and salary.
Both are high-maintenance players.
I would expect Kane to fetch more.
Btw..I'll take Horny at $4.75 over both Kane and Neal at their higher salaries. |

It takes away a 5 million dollar chunk we can use else where. Like our depth. Or we can keep Sill/Adams players around and everyone will still female dog and complain. We aren't in a bad situation with the cap going forward, I would much rather be a full 4 line team than a 2 line team (like we are right now) |

I sure hope the Pens don't go for Kassian. If anyone remembers Ryan Whitney, you have yourself a mental template of a large player who plays just large enough to stay in the lineup but wishes to play a perimeter finesse game.
If the Penguins trade for, say, Winnik then I suppose they'll scratch Downie to keep that dynamite 4th line together. I seriously don't understand what the hell is going on there.
I would have included Beau in a package deal for value simply because his ability to be in the lineup is too mercurial to warrant planning for. Beau has warranted multiple waiver pickups being slotted into the 6th forward position, now even when healthy. This cannot b the case going forward. Let someone else worry about his status and deal with the anxiety regarding his never getting past the stage of trying to develop chemistry with NHL players.
Seriously, Buffalo, wtf?
