I think he's looking for a replacement for Gilbert. Weaver is the depth in case of injury - Fredobface
That would make sense. |

Low risk move, wouldn't mind him on the 3rd pair instead of Gilbert, would definetly be an improvement. - Habsody
They were gonna do Franson for Gorges. Maybe they are still interested. |

Probably, just wonder if the asking price is higher for Franson...

Turns the puck over and over and is a liability in his zone. Also, he couldn't win a battle along the board to save his life. He really is my only concern on the back end right now. The Gonchar-Beaulieu duo has become a sound pairing. |

meh...he's a 6th D, can't expect too much, at least he is a decent puck mover |

I'm quite sure he's looking at least for a depth defenceman in case of injury.
What about Jeff Petry? - sEb_666
Him or Zbynek Michalek must be his target. Not sure who else is available in the west. Not sure it should be a factor tough. |

Actually, Emelin has been more efficient in the transition game. For a playoffs push, an upgrade over Gilbert would certainly make the difference, i think we can all agree on this. |

On which part? Not that i think that i'm always right, but i just wonder what you like in Gilbert's game. The Habs are ready for a long run this year, and improving the 3rd pairing seems like a must to me and fact is, Emelin has really upped his game lately so. |

the problem is salary and the assets needed to land a good D, the price is high at the trade deadline. I'm not sure MB is willing to pay a hefty price for a rental. |

If one of the top 4 defenseman go down, can he play up? I think that's why Bergevin is looking to add. +, Gonchar is getting old for a long run. |

I don't think that's how one evaluates a 6th DMan. |

Obvioulsy the asking price is MB concern, but i really doubt he has to give a king's ransom for a guy like Petry or Michalek. Wouldn't mind a top 6 RW but not a rental, it would have to be a hockey trade. |

I don't like his game, per se. The issue is, he's a 6th DMan with puck moving abilities, whose minutes will likely be around 12:00-14:00 per game maximum, down the stretch and in the playoffs. |
