I do think nyi is the perfect partner for jvr. Hes no rental. He'd be on the top line for years at 4$ mil. Plus his playoff numbers are great. - clark_griswold
I like JVR, and would be a perfect LW for JT, just not sure if isles would pay the price??? |

Its not that hard to see. We dont really need anymore draft picks. We see our future core as
Hall Nuge Eberle
___ Draisaitl Yakupov
Klefbom Nurse
Marincin Schultz
You can disagree but those 9 players we feel will be good enough once they hit their primes.....IN THE MEANTIME we need some veteran stop gap players, and some younger veteran insurance pieces in case one or more don't work out. We have plenty of prospects to replace the current bottom pair and bottom 6 forwards so we dont really need to draft anymore.
So thats it. These are the guys were building around, these are the horses were betting on, if you dont think they are going to be that good then fine. You might not be able to wrap your head around it but a Christian Erhoff or a Francois Beuchemin type would actually would do more for us at the moment then a Seth Jones, and although those guys are not easy to get, they wouldnt cost us Hall or Eberle either.
As for giving up pieces....MacT has already stated he was willing to move the pick as long as it for a player that was Young, established enough to help us now, and good enough to make an impact on this team for the next 5+ years.....any takers? - Jeropotato
I never once said anything negative about your prospects or core. In fact I gave them compliments.

Staple is on TSN1260 right now and is literally saying that he knows the Islanders aren't going to make any major acquisitions. |

I didn't think so bc its not worth giving up some of our prized kids and really don't have draft picks this year...

No, I feel ridiculous writing this but seriously. Look at your place in the standings, the steps backward have already been taken. My point is about the future, the 4-5 years future when your projected young D have developed into studs.
I guess my issue with Oil fans is you guys keep expecting to fill your holes but won't trade or give anything to fill them, and even then you only want today studs not potential studs. Basically you guys are trying a piece together a rebuild on the fly by filling the toughest positions to get but not willing to give up the value on your roster. I know you guys have plenty of talent in your prospect pool, I just don't see the sense in waiting out the best years of Hall/Ebs while that D develops. - uf1910
on the fly? more the painfully slow draft and develope method. |

I think it's gone over so often that it can come off as aggressive. But not meant to be.
the oilers have serious issues and reasonable discussion is the point of the website.
While I don't agree with your solution, your thoughts are welcome brah. |

I see Nuge, Draisaitl as centres. Nurse on D. Those are your untouchables.
Hall, eberle, Yak all can move IMO. Preferably for young Dmen/goalie. But in a perfect world you'd keep hall or eberle. Problem is, hall will fetch you the most...and as to your point, that strong Dman will do much more going forward than another offensive forward - clark_griswold
I'd keep Klefbom as an "untouchable". The rest I'm ok with trading. |

Literally have no choice.
Other than that, we overpay in free agency for secondary players that will come to edm.
There's been a few hits on Pouliot, Gordon. And a couple misses on nikitin, Ference.
Either way, those are depth acquisitions. We wait on the development of stars. And hope that happens.

I can't blame the ignorance on klefbom. As oiler fans we're seeing positive development every game into what might be a truly quality player. But they don't see him as much and admittedly, he's got a long ways to go be considered a true top pairing guy.
So we wait |

plenty in the prospect pool?
Who is even in halls stratosphere that we have?
Eberle ' s?
Even yaks hasn't proven he can be a scorer. We deal ebs, were totally fuked.
Which stud player do we want for nothing? Where did u come up with that?
Wasting halls best years? So he's done at 25?
If you're trying to say tear it down and hope we can refill those spots, I think that it silly.
Potential studs for current ones? How does this make us better, other than rolling the dice again?
Here's what I think; outsiders think the problem is the kids. It's not. it's the insulation they never had and since we can't sign big names or even trade for ones with ntc's, we wait and try and fill holes through the draft.
Redoing this process isn't in any way more prudent than the direction they've already decided on - hugefemaledog77
Wasn't talking about your forwards in your prospect pool, sorry if I wasn't clear about that. Was talking about your D prospects and overall talent.
And if you read my post, I clearly stated my issue with holding onto Hall and Ebs is the NEXT CONTRACT WITH A FAT RAISE they will need, which in turn will coincide with your prospects graduation to stud. I can understand holding one but from what I see you guys want to hold onto them both. Hall is a stud, no denying that and I have no problem seeing you guys hold onto him. But Eb's is replaceable. Sorry to say that but he is. He's one-dimensional, plain and simple. To hold onto him now while your young D is developing and the team is sucking as a result makes no sense to me. Again, my issue is with building a team in a salary cap world.

Eberle is far more replaceable no doubt.
Scoring wingers like him are needed,,but can be found.
And he is fairly one dimensional.
whole losing hall would gut the squad.
But I'd assume we ain't banking on yaks being a scoring winger until he proves it.
If he does, I'd bet one of him or Ebs goes. But until then, we really only have ebs to fill that role. On a team that already struggles to score.
I'm certainly on board with moving a scoring winger for a more pressing need when the time comes, but until we are in that position and have a suitable replacement, I don't really see the point in just creating another hole. But him+ for a hamiltom/jones type? Of course I consider that.
But not for more picks and to reset. I don't think doing that helps anything |

You guys keep saying no more prospects and no more picks. That's my problem. I have no problem with a patient approach, but don't say you don't want more prospects or picks.
Given your timeline, I guess I just don't understand why you guys don't want to move Ebs. I can understand building around Hall, but Ebs is replaceable IMO. You guys can skewer me for that if you want but to me he is one dimensional and not the stud player that Hall is

But that hole is much easier to fill and given you guys self-admitted timeline of 3-5 years for the D to develop, that is plenty of time to acquire a winger
