Yes, it would -- a roster player and at least one of Samheim, Morin or Ghost

JR on WIP saying the FLyers STILL don't have their #1 goalie. Is he really this (frank)ing stupid? Jesus

They'd look so different with a true No. 1 back there...I remember Pronger's first couple of weeks, when his passes were almost always on target and he made the right reads almost all the time

It was like watching a new game

The goaltending has gotten a lot of attention over the years, but there have been spurts where they have gotten league average or better

It's the No. 1 defenseman that they haven't had all too often since I have been watching

Actually, the Flyers have had very good success at drafting forwards late in the first round with both Mike Richards (2003, 24th) and Claude Giroux (2006, 22nd) being superstars (at their time with the Flyers).

Yeah, the odds are better if you have a top-5 pick, but that doesn't mean that good players and/or superstars aren't available throughout the first round and beyond. The Flyers recent track record over the past 4 years of drafting in the first 2 rounds is looking very good. I'm confident that they'll get a good player with their pick this year.

Also, keep in mind that no player, not even McDavid, is guaranteed to be an NHL superstar. Just because you're hyped up and go first overall does not guarantee success.

I get that I was just stating the odds are better. The flyers have found great forwards later in the draft but that shouldn't be used to assume that they are going to do it again. If you want to use past history to judge the future then it must also be assumed the Flyers defense prospects won't amount to much based of the Flyers terrible history of drafting defensemen. Sbisa, woywitka, Pitkanen, Marshall, Ratchuk, and Bodrov were all top 2 round picks and outside of Pitkanen, they never amounted to much.

I don't think you should use either the good or bad history to judge the future in regards to drafting. I believe in playing the odds since luck plays such a huge role in it. My biggest hope is the Flyers acquire many more picks since the more picks they take the more likely the will find great players.

He is. He really is

There are some guys in that line of work who work really hard, watch a ton of games, do the prep work and know what they are talking about. Keith Jones, Ray Ferraro, Mike Johnson, Kelly Hrudey some others

Then there is that clown, who truly sounds like he doesn't watch any games other than the one he is assigned

Yeah like that Nash who left Columbus as a free agent comment.....on 3 different days. I loved JR as a player. I have a Flyers JR jersey. Loved him in Chicago and everywhere else. but man, as an analyst.........he infuriates me

I agree with you on everything, and you're right that none of Ghost/Morin/Sanheim/Hagg are assured to be good NHL players. My only point was that the Flyers, in recent years, have actually done a pretty decent job of finding highly-touted prospects outside of the top-5 picks and a few of them have turned into good/elite players.

That said, they'll be closer to top-10 than top-5, and I'm totally fine with that.
