I think they've played better defensively and on the pk of late, but they're still too much dead weight. Vinny was terrible tonight. I think they've sacrificed some o for the d because they know they have to really help the d corps to have a chance.
- Hextall271

Yes. For every good thing we saw tonight, there was one badly overpaid player to balance it out. Hard to feel good about the future of this team the next couple of years with all the bloat weighing them down.

I hear you, but the Habs are good, man. If somebody told me this a.m. that Emery was only giving up one in regulation, I would have taken it, no questions asked
- AllInForFlyers

i know they are. clearly the better team. this was a game the team needed the top line and they were (frank)ing terrible. it infuriates me to lose to the habs any time, especially there, especially like that, no matter the situation.

step up G and bunny and schenn and V - someone, anyone. help your (frank)ing goalie out.

I don't care about draft picks. I care about them playing hard, trying to become a better team

Swear to God, I wish they would abolish setting draft order by record so people would stop caring more about picks than they do the players who just played their asses off

- AllInForFlyers

They can play their ass off to .500 all they want. Drafting at the middle of the pack year after year gets you nowhere but the middle. Just look at the rest of the league. Its pretty much fact that you need a terrible season every once in a while to climb the hump.

Could this be the Toyota turning point of the franchise?
- feelingkettle

You have no way of knowing if whoever you pick is going to do anything for the franchise

Every year, losers schlep up to the podium and act like the next savior is going to teach them how not to be losers

And yet, only one team wins the Cup, and 29 teams filled with saviors are left wondering why their saviors play like Alexandre Daigle or Jason Bonsignore or Rick diPietro

1st round draft pick in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 for the 1st overall.

Add in Vinny and a 3rd in 2021 if the Oilers still say no.

edit: I honestly don't know what to say to this. Glad you feel good about this team after tonight, but they have not sustained a high level of play for all of the season.

- feelingkettle

Maybe they haven't played at a high level all year. But honestly, how many times have we seen a team get hot at the right time to go on to win it all?

I'm not saying it's going to happen, because it's one hell of a road to travel right now. But what if, just what if they're getting it all together now, and they win the next couple of games. Say they're only 5 pts back after next week. The secondary scoring we saw last year returns.. Then kimmo comes back, then mason comes back healthy. If they make the playoffs why not the flyers ? 2 of the top 5 scorers in the league are on this team, is as (at least statistically this season) a top 5 goalie.

Until they're officially eliminated from playoff contention, I have to root for them to win.

I root for them to win, but not to almost win and lose badly continuously, which is what they have been doing.

I thought the 24-14-17 line was the best line out there for the flyers tonight

I'd prefer to see the team play hard and win rather than rolling over and dying. You might get a Chicago or Pitt tank job, or you may start an Edmonton spiral where you breed a culture of losing. It's a deep draft and I think the team will draft well as always. Outside the top 2, no one is a lock.

I agree with this, and that's why if hexy can make deals for the future the do it. Playoff experience can continue to develop our younger core players however.

76ers are playing their asses off and to the astonishment of the NBA elites they are winning games. Trading players you don't see in your teams future is a sound strategy unless it's that go for it season(s). No need to keep players you know won't be here when their contracts expire. Leverage them for assets. Players still need to "play their asses off."

I get that. I really do. But they're 5-0-2 in their last 7 games. Personally I chalked this game as a loss before it was played, and I'm hoping they make the playoffs

For as many holes as this team has, that was one hell of an effort they put out for 50 minutes

5-0-2 in their last seven, splitting points with the conference leader and the other division leader

Only in Philadelphia is that viewed as failure, with 28 games left in the season

Guess they should stop playing the (frank)ing games once you fall behind

See my posts above. I'm cheering for them to make it. Against my DNA to hope they lose.
