i didn't have a problem with stewart as an official when he was active. i actually liked the way he called a game, but in his writings i found he had a personal bias that didn't allow him to call a game objectively, in my opinion.

Same here, although I don't distinctively remember him as a referee, I only know of him via his off-ice activities.

They're all bad but Innis is legit terrible. I have no doubt his mouth will get him taken off air or buried at a midnight slot. Guy treats his callers like garbage, heard him mock one who was clearly handicapped. Then the other day he went on an extended rant how he believes theres no such thing as being a lesbian and those women are just trying to pull wool over people's eyes. I thought he was joking at first but he went on for a solid 10 minutes about it.

His boss might love him but CBS will dump this guy soon enough.

My coworkers listening to him has actually prompted me to go buy my own radio.

I think he is trying to come across as a Stern/Eskin hybrid. He is god awful. If he really said that about Lesbians and it wasn't part of his "act" he is a complete idiot. Bloom asked me to give him a go and I did.....for a week. i seriously signed up for Sirius online and rather pay to listen than listen to Josh/Bruno or Missinelli.

It's always interesting to me how fans can have a vastly different opinion of a player/coach/official than those of insiders.
- Scoob

evryone has their own point of view.

Fans watch to be entertained and to watch players, not refs.

Players play to win so they like whichever ref helps them do that.

bloggers and reporters like the ones who give them a story or are their pen pals.

I seem to vaguely recall liking Missinelli years ago on WIP, but he probably has the biggest ego of any sports talk personality in the city. Innis is just an idiot who doesn't understand how to be like Eskin. Eskin would infuriate people, but he didn't outright insult people (well, some he did) and make prejudiced and uninformed remarks.

I read about him at philly.com and thought I should give him a listen. I listened for about three nights, one was the night he trashed the station for moving him to AM which was the biggest train wreck I'd ever heard, then two night later he gets into an argument with a caller over whether he's a racist or not. He spent the hour I was in the car pretty much proving that was exactly what he was.

I was out.

- mayorofangrytown

I think this is exactly what he wants. people talking about him whether its good or bad. He went off on a person for questioning his style and i swear I was listening to Eskin right down to the Moron comment.

I think people misunderstand what he means by acceptability and accountability. It's pretty much part of every ref's toolbox.

Yes and no. I do have colleagues whose basis of opinion is largely framed by how approachable the guy is and if he's a good quote. However, I think the majority know how to separate it.

The biggest divergence, I've found, is the difference between fan opinion and coach/scout/player view.

Paul Stewart seems like a cool guy.
- 2Real

He is a good guy. Very funny and personable. Tough as nails and very opinionated but also caring and even sentimental -- huge heart.

Yes, but the Eskin/Stern type of guys had you talk about them and keep you coming back because it's interesting. Innis is having people talk about him and NOT tune back in. It's what's lost on him, that you can't outright bash your audience and be uninformed.

I'm sure he's a great guy in person. I just, personally, find a number of his stories to be incredibly self-serving.

You can do one or the other, but not both.

Heck, even Stern knew what he was talking about when he'd start ripping people. Innis just goes on long rants where he has no idea what he's talking about.

Well, I've heard all of five minutes of Stern, so I can't opine on him. As far as Eskin goes, zero love for him here.

JR on WIP saying the FLyers STILL don't have their #1 goalie. Is he really this (frank)ing stupid? Jesus

I agree with you. While I can't stand Eskin or Innis, I loved Stern at one time. I listened from 86 til he went off of regular radio.

he wants the attention. doesn't matter if its good or bad. I don't know much about him but I do know he has been all over the USA so obviously his shelf life is not long. I can see why.

I like your positive outlook. Very refreshing.

I can't wait to see that goal on NHL tonight.

Hey, as long as Emery gets removed from the game for bludgeoning Carey Price, I'll allow it.
