Gauthier was drafted as a conservative 3rd line defensive shutdown/pk player, and is on track to being that player so far. Just wasn't a high risk/reward pick, but was a pick that the Leafs needed to make, as it's something that's missing. Not to say it can't be filled in with numerous free agents, but Gauthier specializes in that, and fills a need. Let it play out.

you can't on one hand criticize his junior hockey numbers ... and then when someone shows you the kid basically a point per game player - discount junior hockey numbers.

Franson nor Gardiner are going anywhere the team is going for semi rebuild and aren't trading them but Robidas Holzer and Phaneuf are available. Only players that aren't moving Imo are Kadri Jvr Reilly Bernier Gardiner Franson. I think Kessel gets moved in off season to a team that's one piece away from taking the next step like Dallas Colorado Nashville or Florida all the teams have cap space or in Colorado case have the centers to make a trade
