It might... just MIGHT... be Sid playing with Kunitz to try and inflate his trade value just a smidge more
- Guile

i get it, kunitz is his boy and he sticks with him. but i mean he sure didnt have any problem welcoming perron into the fold.

if dupuis comes back, is crosby going to suddenly demand that perron goes to the third line?

i really dont see the sense in trying to acquire wingers if the stars dont want to play with them.

granted, this is placing stock in rossi's comment, that may or may not be unfounded.

Make that 8...

Neal was brought here for Sid, but Sid wasn't playing because of the concussion. By the time Sid returned, it would have been dumb to take Neal away from Malkin.

Peter Sykora is um.....Peter Sykora.

When Iggy was brought here, Kuni, Sid and Duper was one of the best lines in the league. While I would have done some experimenting when it went cold against the B's, It's hard to judge anything from the limited time Iggy was here. I mean, Iggy got here and then Orpik destroyed Sid's face.

I thought Sid and Horny were great together.... I personally think the coach is trying to spread the wealth around.

- madmike71

That's what I think sometimes, but putting horn with sid and kuni with malkin wouldn't change much IMO. Our second line would have 2 top6 players, just like now.

What bothers me the most is that Kuni plays well with Malkin and Sid while Horny was amazing with Sid and so so with Malkin. So to me it's a no brainer to put Kuni with Malkin and Horny with Sid....

a 3 page argument over something that turd sandwich said shows me that we are as petty as it gets and this organization is fine. Hit the Toronto board for real female dogging.

all of this.

i know kunitz can drop down and play well with malkin. theyve shown it before and their respective styles mesh well.

i think its a maximization of the available assets to the team.

yes. hornqvist is a better player than kunitz, especially at this stage in their careers.

especially on the powerplay, horns value to this team is immense.

if those murmurs are true, it is really upsetting to me that the captain/franchise player cant see that.

for someone who sees/thinks the game so well, i just dont understand that.

- stayinthefnnet

I also just don't understand why sid would say that and the coach would pretty much say "hey you're right, youre Sidney Crosby so you get whatever you want". its the coaches job to make the team better. If horn starts struggling with malkin, I hope MJ has the balls to say eff you to sid and that he will play with whoever MJ says. I don't care if Tangradi comes back, if MJ says he's on your wing then he is on your wing.

i mean i have a hard time understanding why crosby cant see this, but i have 0 trouble believing that crosby's word has infinitely more weight than MJs.

Middle of the season and we hit a rut. With over 200 MGL to injuries we are within a game of our division lead, two forwards top 10 in points, a Norris candidate, and the best goaltending in years, yet we are all on the ledge?

Bylsma never wanted to test this team, MJ is and we are freaking out. Maybe in March he sets his lineup and we actually hit the playoffs playing like a real hockey team.

Bennett still on ice here. He'll be scratched again.

Not sure what is going on there, but it's not looking like it will end well.

I thought Horny and Sid clicked pretty well early in the season. Seemed like a perfect fit to me.

Lets break this down though. Everyone is saying this is Rossi being Rossi. But....

1. Sid still, after 9 seasons, cant figure out how to play with Malkin.
2. Sid didn't mesh immediately with Hossa (took about 10 games or so). And, they never really clicked.

- 87_71_11_29

Hossa played 87 percent of his shifts with Sid and put up 26 points in 20 playoff games, 10 points in the finally 12 regular season games... yeah it took time, but they clicked pretty damn well in the playoffs.

3. Couldn't mesh at all with Sykora.
- 87_71_11_29

I don't even think they even really tried to play Sykora with Sid, he had way better Chemistry with Malkin, I don't even think he was given the chance to mesh with Sid.

4. Sid didn't mesh at all with James Neal. Neal can skate. Great shot. No reason why that shouldn't have worked on paper.
- 87_71_11_29

Great shot, but I definitely do not think Neal can skate, the dude was pretty slow.. which is why he was a better fit for Malkin's East-West game, as opposed to Sid's North-South, download game...

5. Sid didn't mesh with Iginla. Seemed like a perfect match.
- 87_71_11_29

Disco screwed that up by not putting him where he was going to succeed, that's not Sid's fault. But he still put up 11 points in 13 regular season games, and 12 points in 14 playoff games...

6. Now, apparently, Sid cant play with Horny? Once again, no reason on paper why this shouldn't work. Guerin wasn't a fast guy and he clicked pretty well with him.

Meanwhile, Malkin...

1. Won the Playoff MVP with Feds and Talbot riding shotgun.
2. Meshed immediately with Staal during Staal's rookie year in which he put up 29 goals.
3. Meshed immediately with Sykora and Malone.
4. Crushed it with Neal.

- 87_71_11_29

I agree with the regular season, but the playoffs he disappeared and often took boneheaded penalties in the offensive zone/on the power play.

5. Crushing it this season with a revolving door of linemates including Kunitz, Horny, Spaling, Sutter, Arco..Doesn't matter. 71's producing.
- 87_71_11_29

Sure, he's crushing it, so is Sid... 53 points for Sid in 47 games, and 52 for Geno in 46 games. They've both been producing.

Hmm...just sayin.....

Don't like it. Could it be possible that they don't want to play him for fear that he'll be hurt before they can trade him?

yeah. my reflections on not being fine are more related to an overarching, recurring team mentality and organizational structure.

this rut right now? those things happen to the best of teams. hell, it probably has a chance of actually being good for the team.

Which you are not alone in. Many see it that way. I'm not worried. I know Botterill has a master plan that he has been creating for years.

Assuming they move Kunitz for Jagr and BB can get his $h!t together...

Perron Crosby Hornqvist
Bennett Malkin Jagr
Comeau Sutter Downie
Spalding Lapierre Arcobello (sorry Craig, always been a fan but your time is up)

Pittsburgh should trade for E Kane right away. They would get to part with some dead weight (looking at you, BB) and gain the ltir cap space for the rest of the year. Maybe then the flexibility would allow for some hockey trades.
