That is tough, but deadline deals can be made to get back into the fray. If Sutter doesn't want to resign he could be dealt draft day for picks. There are always options.

Yes, but I think you get less value at the NHL Draft vs the trade deadline for deals of that nature. So would need the picks back now, not later... which is just looking unlikely due to our specific needs.

Yikes... I was looking up Spaling's points and +- for the season, and saw 3 interesting things.

Sutter at -6, well, not interesting, we knew this.
Perron at -5, jesus Edmonton (frank)ed him hard.
Harrington... -10!!!! ummm wow.

- Guile

Didn't know Sutter was a -6.. damn that's bad.
Perron is a -5 with us... -17 with EDM
Harrington -10 in 10 games.....

We don't really have anyone with a great +/- this year...

Edit: Geno was -8 last year

Scuds at a +9... lets just take a moment for that to sink in.

Sign me up. Maybe we don't even need the prospect. I would be happy with that return. That second will be a low-mid range pick.
- znagle

That's right, they are in the top 40 range with the 2nd, probably a 2nd and maybe 5th then, but I'm greedy .

Winnik plus 2nd round selection for Sutter.

Scuds isn't worth his contract, but he's not playing as bad as some think. Didn't have a good start to the season, but has been decent enough since.

The more the merrier but that would be a good trade for both teams IMO. Like you said, they can then move Santorelli for lost assets etc

Scuds has been great this whole season, minus one game at the beginning of the year. I have said it all year; he is exactly as advertised.

I value Scuderi at around 2-2.5 mil a year. And that is being a bit generous to his 2 cups and veteran presence, as well as how he has brought in Despres.

Much better than the negative 5 million he was worth after he returned from the injury last year.

If it makes you feel better, someone posted in the Rangers thread last night that they heard a rumor that Lundqvist has a blood clot in his neck and is out the rest of the year. We will see....

Scuds has been fine. IMO he's been a great depth D. I can't count the amount of times I've seen him break up a back door or sacrifice the body to save a goal. I think all the hate comes from last year, he broke his foot and wasn't any good after that. This year he is leagues above last year.

I think they plan on moving him anyway so to pick up Sutter and picks prospects for two bottom six players on the other side of prime is really good management.

with crosby malkin horny and prb perron here for the next 4 years or so... and with kap in the upcoming... maatta / dp / letang with possibly dumo or harrington working out... and with MAF followed up by several good goalie prospects... pens have the core needed to fiddle with their picks for this year... maybe next. dont want to give them all away... (remember 1st draft choice nathan moon?) Pens need to make sure they dont rush their stars and develop them correctly. As soon as healthy DP needs sent back down. BB needs sent back down. Maatta is the exception to the rule... on of the rare exceptions. We saw with Goc last year... moving picks for both 6 depth peices is a danerous proposition. if winnik / berg / etc dont come cheap... go with what you got.

If you think Sutter is such an overrated player (not disagreeing) why would another team want him?

That's what I'm worried about. I'm hoping the Pens put a nice little video package together of last years playoffs and the first month of this year while they shop him.

It's been RW contention that Sutter is replaceable. I wasn't always on board with that assessment, but I think most of us can agree he was right.....unfortunately.
