I know it was "legal" at the time, but what a dirt bag scott stevens was, just went out doing everything he could to hurt the other teams top players with no respect or thoughts towards their health or showing good sportsmanship
how many guys careers did he end? thats not something to be proud about MF'er should be ashamed - JLT168
It always rings hollow when the NHL pretends to be for "getting that out of our game". Obviously, the DoPS is weak kneed and incapable of handing down real, significant punishment, but that drum is banged enough.
No, what I'm whining about is the NHL selling the game on these hits. At least once a year, I see a broadcast with a whole reel of the "biggest hits EVAR", and undoubtedly those Stevens hits are in there. Ok, I get it, they were legal then, but you can't sell the league on those hits and celebrate them now, while also saying you're trying to take them out of the game.
Well, I guess you can, if you want to be literal about it. However, it broadcasts loud and clear a lack of credibility.
Spaling is outplaying Sutter. Through multiple people's work, they have shown he has even helped Malkin's possession when playing with him. You cannot say the same for Sutter.
Since Nov 6 Sutter has 2 more points than Comeau. Blake hasn't played in a month. Sutter is overrated in almost every aspect of the game, but we won't trade him until the summer time.
Bringing in a depth guy like Winnik is our best move right now without moving one of the pieces named.

But can Spaling Center the 3rd line? I was pissyingly harping on it for about a month hoping the Pens would try him there while Sutter had the 2nd line. I still NEED to know if he can do it.

That is the beauty of a Winnik trade. He is also a center by nature and can handle those duties.
I think Spaling can and if he does he gets flanked by two wingers good enough to help carry the play.

Yes, my response wasn't directed at the Winnik trade... its at the other targets people are proposing that aren't that bad of an idea.
He's been a recent healthy scratch in Vancouver and has 4 points in 26 games...why is everyone seeing this guy as a solution to anything? - jmatchett383
It's a common thing. Our guys suck, so let's trade them to another team for their guys that they don't want because they suck, and then both fan bases can chirp about how much better they are because they traded their guys that suck for another team's guys that suck.

I don't think we could even afford him in that scenario anyway cap wise? - Guile
I dont think we can either. Obviously would involve another trade or another piece. I know occasionally Bart talks about his friend in the Pens FO. That is why i was curious.
The exact quote:
"cannot site the source because hes a personal friend and is in the pens organization but from what im hearing its getting pretty serious talk wise to bring in kane....even though hes a healthy scratch based on disciplinary reasons, there is more to it than that. GMJR and Mario and company dont want him playing and the jets agreed unless talks fall through. From what i heard its gonna be bennett, harrington/pouliot and 3rd/4th round pick. Again im sorry for not being able to give you guys the source. But I probably should not of even said this much. Take it for what its worth."

That would make our top 6 so disgusting strong... however, there is no way we could have a solid bottom 6 with that much top heaviness.
BUT! Having half AHLers (not including Sill) would still be better than the Adams and Glass crap we had in the past.
Also think that means for cap reasons, Martin or Ehrhoff gets shipped out sooner than later. I don't see another movable piece for that much cap, since that quote did not mention Sutter.

I don't care who it's against, but I could watch highlights of Mario Lemieux all day. - jmatchett383
Sportsnet in Canada is showing a program called NHL Classics which is an hour replay of a great game from bygone years which features pop up bubbles with random facts about the teams and players involved in the game. Last week they had Game 2 of the Penguins/North Stars series in 91. Which featured this goal:
It was great to watch in the context of the game. I watched in 91, but I was 9 years old and I didn't remember a bunch of that game.
Thanks for the report Ryan. If ESPN would bring back Gary, and Bill, I might just be willing to start the mending process with that channel. But, it's like bringing back the old MTV VJ's. It's a nice thought, but I don't think that will happen..lol.
On Perron. I think the Oil ruins everyone's career these days. The Oil really needs some fresh blood in the management system, and to dump some of those first rounders. They have talent, but my gosh you really need some depth guys, and not just offensive guys with speed. I can see why Belov, and so many other guys don't want to play there.
I'm glad to see that you guys kept The Flower. I enjoy watching him flop around, and being scored upon. He reminds me of Price in his early days...lol. However, Price finally turned the corner.
Good luck in the playoffs. I hope that the Flyers will see you there next season. It's always fun to watch the Flyers, and Pens play. It's much better than watching the Oil or Yotes in the playoffs. Ahh...nothing like a cap, and a bargaining agreement to water teams down. And don't get me started on the Vegas team rumors...blah.

Id seriously do that with Bennett, Harrington and a 3rd. Id prefer to hold onto Pouliot.
They would def need to make some cap room first though.
