Just read the story.

The number of times I had to re-read a line & said to myself "Is this really want the NHL wants hockey to be?" was about 4 times.

Yes the NHL has stood alone as a sport since the beginning. Keep katy Perry, and little league baseball fans separate. Keep fancy stats and people who want to change the game out. NHL has survived for years, sometimes by the barbaric nature of the game. I'll take players like Prust over Goc, Gibbons, Megna, Rust types any day.

Survived. Funny choice. Too bad guys like Boogaard and Rypien and Belak didn't get to survive with it.

It would be amazingly stupid and short sighted. This team needs more skilled wings on ELC or RFA deals; not to be unloading one of the few that they do have. He may be struggling now, but shipping him out of town for a ~30gm, 3rd-line rental player would be pretty stupid.

How many times did people want to trade Despres? Now we have a Top-Dman with a $900K Cap Hit this year & next w/ two RFA years remaining after that.

I agree here. I'm not opposed to adding Kassian as a bottom 6 player. Let's be honest, no matter if you think he's overrated or not, he's an upgrade over Adams/Sill. But at the expense of Beau? Not a chance. Add to the forward depth, and wings in particular, dont give away the few decent wings we have.

It's not like Beau has played consistently in the last 3 years and just hasn't developed. He has been plagued by injuries and this has severely reduced his ability to get better. He still has loads of potential and shouldn't be tossed away just yet

I feel like I'm reliving the Disco nightmare with BB playing his off wing. Play him where he's comfortable then you can judge him.

An his trade value is nill right now. It would be a bad trade no matter what. But I'm not too worried, I have faith that JR wont do something that dumb.

I might be ok if we traded someone like Dumo/Harrington for Kassian though. There's still some upside to his game, despite his struggles, he can still be effective in the bottom 6 even if he never finds that scoring touch. And most of all...we still have Adams and Sill so it's a gamble I would take.

I refuse to judge any wing that is playing Sutter. If anybody needs a wake up call it's that turd.

Matthias? I think I'd rather have Winnik. Can eat pretty big minutes, pk's well, not a bad puck distributor either. Just not a good shot. Not as big as Matthias but plays like a hell hound.

Im just looking at the Salary situation.
Sutter + Bennett = 4.2
Kassian + Matthias = 3.5

I honestly dont know much about Winnik, but Matthias is 6'4 @ 225lbs with wheels. I just want a bigger presence on the third line, if Winnik brings that then Im all for him.
Its just Kassian and Matthias are both signed for next year as well, so we wouldnt be trading a signed player for a rental.

I would really think about that one...just because I think Matthias would be a pretty good upgrade AND cheaper than Sutturd.

And that bottom 6 would be a real b*tch. But giving up the best player in any deal is usually a bad idea.

Whose the best player in that deal? Honestly it could go either way.

Kassian has the most potential IMO
Matthias isn't going to surprise you but he has the physical tools
Bennett like Kassian has potential but I dont think he has game breaker potential like Kassian.
Sutter.... Im not impressed with his progession much.

The only player I see that could come back and haunt the trading team is Kassian. But I really think this would go down in history as a rare 4 player swap that both teams are happy with.

I'll give you creativity points. And if JR could make another hockey trade (with the money saved) to get some skill/goal scoring that we lost in Bennett, it'd be a win win.

Winnik/Bergenheim are the type of cheap (in terms of cost to acquire) guys I would like. There's some things to like about Matthias as well if he was replacing Sutter. Kudos for coming up with a trade proposal worth discussing..I just think that, despite the upgrade in size, we'd be bringing in more guys that cant score..

I don't like the idea of trading Beau and I personally don't believe Kassian and Matthias are worth it. Maybe if it was Sutter for those two, but I don't see value there IMO.

That's about where I am with this one as well. Beau is the one most likely to come back to haunt the team that gave him away, in my very humble opinion.

Sutter and Dumo for that package...I'd be all for it.

I like the idea of trading Beau, but I've never liked him much.
You could probably get the same deal done with Vancouver trading Sutter and Harrington/Dumoulin.

As gritty as we want to be...we need more goals...and I'm not quite high enough on Kassian to think he could ever play with Geno. I think he maxes out at good 3rd line winger.

i will never understand the interest in zach kassian. wasnt a good player in buffalo, obviously hasnt lived up to expectations on the canucks.

it is going to cost a premium to get him.... and to me, an unnecessary cost.

Goals are the job of the top two lines and the power play.
If you have a team that boasts Crosby, Malkin, Perron, Hornqvist, Kunitz, Letang you should not be looking for scoring.

I agree with you that Kassian probably tops out as a 3rd liner. But thats why I said potential, and a guy with his speed, hands and size if he could ever figure it out would be a game breaker. But this argument is really pointless, you can provide many reason why Kassian wont pan out and you wont be wrong, I can probably provide you the many reasons I think he will. Time will have to tell on that guy.

Goc just left his guy all alone in front of the net for a Lightning goal. penguins already have enough of those guys. goalies like Fleury find it tough to block point blank shots.

Im seduced by the what if of Kassian. I believe he is a coach like Tocchet away from taking that next step.
