Kassian would be perfect. A big, light frame to play an imposing perimeter game. He had 14 of his career 25 NHL goals last year, so he's clearly entering his prime. Weak shot? Yes. Takes shifts off? Check. Scores just enough to stay in the lineup? No, not lately.
Being 6'3, 200+ in the OHL allows a player to get away with this kind of thing. It worked for Chris Simon. The NHL, however, has continually exposed Kassian and frankly the simpering figure of Mike Johnston isn't going to be the one which reminds him that his game is one of hard work and driving the net. ZK would most certainly play a Pierre-Marc Bouchard pattern, minimal hard work game in a Penguins sweater. - Johnny Wrath
A guy like Winnik will actually do what you want Kassian to do. Kassian has nothing to offer outside of a 4th line spot. Plus, he is a right shot and we don't need that. |

I think the Penguins need to start subtracting, not adding. The team is not a 3rd line piece away.
Kassian is a floater; a pretender to the power forward position. He's proven that he's got limited will and limited skill. He is, in a sense, what the Penguins bottom six already is. |

He is a slightly more effective Tangradi if you ask me.
But I'm on the trade Sutter bandwagon so subtraction isn't a bad idea. I'm not with on the Letang front, but that is a dead horse argument anymore. |

The thing about Kassian is that I don't want him to sniff our top 6, but would he be happy being a fourth liner? Isn't the fact that he's had trouble cracking Vancouver's top 6 part of the reason why he's so unhappy there? He still has potential, but we're not gonna get anything out of him if he's pouting the whole time and then he just becomes almost 2 mil of wasted cap.
Also, to get him I'd assume we'd part ways with Sutter? I'm done with Sutter as much as the next guy, but can Spaling or Arcobello do much better? A bottom six of
Comeau-Arcobello-Downie
Spaling-Lapierre-Kassian
does not look great to me. Actually, same thing goes for Winnik. How much do we trust that Arco, Spaling or Winnik can take over 3C and be even as productive as Sutter? Lapierre is out of the question, I'd say. We really should not have traded Goc.... |

assuming crosby, malkin, letang, and fleury are not moved (due to the fact that i just dont see the organization doing it), who do you ship out?
and what does your rebuilding plan/length/term/objectives look like? |

I've been voicing the same opinion. Not that I'm giving up on this year, but I do think the Penguins need to consider the next 3-4 years as their Cup Contending window rather than an single all-in season.
Would love Winnik, but would rather sign him as a UFA for 2-3 years for nothing than give up a price asset for ~30games. He'd be a solid addition, but he isn't the second coming of Gordie Howe or something.
Move Sutter and Scuderi for picks/roster players/Cap Space.
Let Adams and Sill walk as UFAs.
Sign more UFAs like Comeau & Downie.
Let Despres, Bennett, & Maatta contuinue to grow.
Develop Pouliot, Dumoulin, Sundquvist & Harrington.
Just don't over react & do something that marginally helps this season, but handicaps the season next 3 or 4 seasons. Ie, move Bennett for a rental. |

No point in trying to get Kassian for the 3rd/4th line. He wants to be top 6, and it'll just be another Sutter not playing hard type of deal here he does at times.
Same with Jagr, no point in any team trying to acquire him unless its for a 1st line role, or 2nd line with a very good 2nd center like we have. |

For me personally, I'd move* Sutter, Scuderi, Adams, & Sill. Possibly Spaling and Bortuzzo, but less sure about those two.
Aside from Sutter, the return won't be much (if anything), but just replacing Sill & Adams as UFA's this offseason more players closer to Downie or Comeau (ie, can play hockey) would improve the 4th line by a lot.
* = By move I mean trade, let walk as a UFA, or buyout. |

The mood has changed on Sutter so quickly. In November most of you were naming your first born child after him. Ryan was cast off for saying Goc would fill in without missing anything. Now you all want to string him up? I think most of it stems from insecurities for all of you. You saw his junk in that interview and made you feel less of a man? I'd probably hang on to him at this point so he can increase his value a bit. Never sell low unless it's Enron |

hopefully you jest about rebuilding......we have a really good team as it is. i think it is just a combo of bad luck, injuries and every team we play against is always giving it 100% because everyone loves to beat the penguins. i mean honestly how many rival can one team have? flyers, ranger, isles, capitols, blue jackets, boston, redwings.....im sure i am missing someone

I was never on his bandwagon this year. After watching him this year it's clear he has zero physicality. Zee-ROE. Nada. Zilch. Nyet. Goosegg, empty set, black hole, dark matter, anti matter, it doesn't matter because he sucks! |
