He's a great player, but the back end is where we need improvement.

A pending-UFA and a backup goaltender for the best goaltending prospect in the world and a mid-round pick? No thanks.

Leave it to Edmonton to think that steaming pile of horse crap is a good deal eh? What next? Yakopov for Stamkos and the Rangers first? Bishop straight up for Scrivens? WTF!?!

Hey Michael,
With the depth we are sporting up front, what are the chances we move Filppula on draft day? Stamkos, Johnson, Namestnikov and Boyle (also Paquette) look good down the middle. Filppula could fetch a good return.

To me you can not move a free agent signing like Filppula this early in a contract for multiple reasons. 1 he is not a Nabokov type of signing, Fil is in his prime. 2 he is still needed on this team, he plays the most minutes of the F besides Stamkos and tends to draw the opposing teams top line when Cooper can. 3 it sets a bad precedent to trade a free agent signing of his caliper in his second year to potential new free agent signings looking at the Bolts.

With all that said Its going to be interesting to see how the Bolts go forward with 6 legit center men of which next year 5 of them cannot be sent down and the one who can looks like he is sticking around. I think Fil continues to play wing on Stamkos line unless they feel Drouin can move up to Stamkos and Fil goes back to his own line with Paquette on the wing.

This is not a bad thing - one year rental at worst, two year mentor to the young guys at best. Good gamble. Take it. Get Jagr. Tampa has had plenty of dinosaurs come here to retire. Andreychuk got us a Cup in the process.

agree 100 percent way to early to move flipper yzerman does a great job attracting fa's. you don't want to damage that by dumping someone in his second year. Now when cap is a factor down the years maybe 2 years from now i can see them moving flipper somewhere. Always felt when vladdy was ready flipper goes back to the wing or maybe stamkos moves to the wing.

bringing in another vet would not be bad to help the kids in the playoffs it's not like he would cost a ton via trade.

I don't live in Edmonton. nor work for the team. that wasn't a real offer. I think maybe youre confused at what happens on this site.
were u under the impression I was mact under guise doing some trolling on the net?

and are you implying that oiler fans overvalue more than other fanbases??
yeah ive heard this narrative from a few other brain dead people.
"mact wont sell off his kids from a position of weakness for 3rd liners and character guys. He so overvalues them!!!"

anyways,
unproven young goalies generally go for notoriously low packages.
see ben bishop and anders lindback.
even some that are semi proven with high ceilings, but have some question marks go for mediocre packages. see kari lehtonen and jonathan bernier.

theres been a few times where the payment is relatively high, see varlamov or cory Schneider (both far more proven than vasilevski) but even them, still nothing that's too massive. or nothing worth WAY more than a solid top 4 dman and quality backup goalie.

now I realize that vasilevsky is a true bluechipper and that's why Id like him on the oilers, but goalies are always tough to gauge. even ones as good as he is at this age.
petry is far from a worthless piece, but I assumed hed resign. maybe I shoulda been more clear.
and fasth is a solid backup.

and what exactly are you expecting back when u deal him?
I think youll be disappointed if youre hoping for way more than that. what u think is fair and what the market dictates are probably two completely different things. and if you think offering jeff petry for vasilevsky is akin to offering yakupov for stamkos, then I think you should have a look in the mirror before you accuse anyone else of overvaluing home team players.....

either way, it wasn't a real offer, so just relax pumpkin. and counter if youd like, but no need to be a douche about it

A don't expect anything for him, because he won't be going anywhere. You seem to think that because it's the mighty Edmonton Oilers that Yzerman will just trade you whatever you want for rentals and less then average goalies. Arrogance and stupidity is your trademark and I'd rather have a conversation with a stop sign then continue to indulge a troll such as you.

Jagr can slot in almost anywhere.

If I had to sit someone for Jagr, it would be whoever is in the revolving Morrow/Brown seat.

and what does edm have to do with anything ? Why are u so hateful on a discussion forum towards the oilers? Did klowe fuk your mom or something?

and YOU called ME arrogant and stupid??!!

While I agree that eventually one of the 2 will be moved, neither will be moved for the peanuts package that was offered earlier. Again, a pending UFA d-man and a marginal backup for one of the best tending prospects in the game.

Vasi and Gibson are universally considered 1A/1B tending prospects in the game and contrary to what was posted before tenders do not get marginal returns. Schneider and Varlamov netted lottery 1st rounders, Lindback netted multiple 2nd/3rd rounders. The only one who netted a small package was Bishop but there were extenuating circumstances as to why. Ottawa had 3 goaltenders so one had to be moved. They were a playoff team/contender so Anderson wasn't getting moved and Lehner is/was their goaltender of the future. Bishop was the logical piece to be moved. There also may have been a games played clause that might have pushed Bishop to UFA but that may have been why StL moved him to Ottawa.
