Did you miss the part where Johnston said that Goc needed to chip in more offensively?!?
He was expected to. He didn't. He's gone. - hardnosed
You can't honestly think ML will help those guys score more. I mean, let's be honest, they're bringing Lapierre here to be a dirt bag. |

I think Shero brought him in dues to all the injuries we had down the stretch that year - all-pgh
That and the trades from the previous year left the cupboards bare of assets to acquire skill players. Not saying we should have grabbed them, but while Hemsky and Gaborik were being dealt Shero was doing what he could to add cheap pieces--Goc and Stempniak. If Shero didnt give up everything he did in the Murray, Iginla, and Morrow deals, might have been able to add more than Goc and Stemp. We needed pieces and those 2 were what we could afford. |

Ott- 45gp 7 points
Reaves- 45gp 6 points
Those will most likely be Goc's linemates, in other words, not a big difference in the skill of his line mates. He will still produce like a 1.2 million dollar turd |

Interesting tidbit i caught on the Jets broadcast last night...
Pens are 9-0-1 when missing both Crosby and Malkin since 2011. - canadianpenfan
I saw that stat after the game too... its ironically funny... Would like to see who these 10 games were against. |

Pretty sure everyone on this board would have LOVED to have kept Stemp, especially at the price he went for to the rangers. |

I do think they expected something closer to Letestu out of Goc. Obviously, that didnt happen or come even remotely close. Now they are going to go the grit route. |

They play a much more simple game. Hopefully Sid and Geno were taking notes. Especially on the PP. |

This says it all right here. Ebbett is a younger Craig Adams as well.. - znagle
My goodness, might as well call you and hardnosed Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne |

Horny was also back... a big factor for those net crashing goals, set up, and pressure. |

At the time, yes. Now, not so much. Given the way Comeau and Downie have played it makes Stemp leaving not matter. |

"You, you start in the defensive zone with the most pathetic players on the team. But if you don't produce you are gone!"
Yah, great franking logic. |

Ebbett has 6 points in 19 games. Goc had 8 in 55. I don't think you can argue that. Ebbett has been better than #FancyStat Goc |

Stemp makes Adams money... Easy decision |

Pfft... I would STILL want him here. 900K for a player with already known 2nd and 3rd line skill. And not simple "plug in" skill, but all the time skill level.
You would want Arcobello over Stemp... or Sill, Adams.. etc... |

Late addition to the blog today. Domenic Galamini was kind enough to create this today for me.

If that's who replaces Adams on the 3rd line....count me in. 2016 3rd round pick, just do it JR. |

you have somewhat of a point but Goc never produced when put in better positions either. (for the pens) |

Ebbett has scored the majority of those points away from Sill and Adams. You literally can't argue that. I am not going to sit here and debate who is better Goc or Ebbett, because that doesn't matter. My issue is that both of those guys are better than Sill and Adams. |

Can't say I really see the trade of Goc for Lapierre as being a big deal one way or the other. Both are UFAs at the end of the season and the Cap Hits are essentially a wash.
Goc has some nice advanced stats, but that just didn't translate into a lot of sucess with the Penguins. Solid defensive C, but not a physical, checking C.
Lapierre is more physical, but also has a significant history with going over the line. He has, however, kept his PIM in check this season at least.
Just have to wait & see how it turns out. - s0rcerer1984
I think hes only been suspended one time his whole career actually...not that im saying he doesn't go over the line, but in the league's eyes he is exempt as a repeat offender because the last incident was over 18 months ago. |

I am quite sure that stemp left because he was unhappy with the rockiness of the coach/gm situation. for a few weeks it was a hot mess. |

Absolutely... He never gave a reason, but I do not believe it was money related seeing how cheap he went.
And I personally cannot fault him for leaving when a team had no GM and a coach you knew was going to be fired. |

It is pretty obvious size and grit was the goal with letting him and Gibbons walk. I have no issue with it based on the way the team is being built now for the playoffs. Couple more moves and none of Arco, Sill, Adams should be in the lineup for the playoffs. Not like we are the only team who didnt offer Stemp more than 900k |

He stated he felt NYR gave him a great chance and they could roll 4 lines. He liked that a lot. Do we even know if JR threw him an offer though? If he didn't that would've been a HUGE mistake. |

Not defending him... but since we can never say this enough... the NHL discipline system is stupid. |
