It's a shame most of you don't appreciate having a quality blogger for your team. What's funny is you think the blogs make him look ridiculous, not your posts. Comical.
- bri29smith

Anyone who thinks Goc is a third line center for Pittsburgh isn't a quality blogger. Anyone who thinks that is utterly ridiculous.

RW, first and foremost, I enjoy the stats in the blogs and all them pie graphs get me hungry for more. Ill continue to lurk and post once in a long while.

I think for me the advanced stats available to us currently just arent the greatress. Meaning advanced stats in hockey is still kind of growing where as baseball and football has been tracking and comparing everything for a long time. I think the metrics that we are measuring and comparing arent the best. Corsi? Fenwick? When you look at it honestly how much better are they than basis shot differential or plus/minus. I think when you start using them with player usage thats better information and paints a better picture.

I see advanced stats as helpful but more so in determining fantasy production.

As the community develops well see more informative and reliable data I think.

Also thanks to RW for collecting it and presenting it, id be too lazy to do it on my own.

I would like to see something that compares our players or lines with others around the league. I think more than us arguing over the value of Goc vs Sutter how about a comparison of other playoff bound teams 3rd and 4th line centers. Lets see how metrics say we stack up for the playoffs

I didn't even have to read the article to know that this was not just a Goc fluff piece, but a Sutter defamation commentary.

Sure, you can trade sutter and goc could replace him on the 3rd line, but the depth is worse than it was before. I don't think anyone is saying goc is a bad player, but him on the 4th line provides the best depth for the team. Tell MJ to get Adams and sill out of here and play him with arcobello, rust, Farnham, or spaling. you also said it yourself that sutter has better offensive skills than goc, so why argue if goc provides better "stats"?

I'm fine with the stats and his opinion (it kind of fired me up when he defined objective and then uses the whole blog as a slam about Sutter).

But......

It's a game day against the Penguins biggest rivals, plus a pretty big game for the Pens considering they've been struggling lately, and he doesn't mention anything about tonight's game.

I miss just normal game day blogs. A little refresh of how the pens are doing, some news tidbits, and then a little info on the flyers. Nothing says game day like a sutter vs goc blog

How can this current Flyers lineup be considered a "rival" right now? The only thing they're rivaling right now is the 93/94 Senators in the PK department.

Perron-Crosby-Honrqvist
Kunitz-Malkin-Comeau
Downie-Sutter-Bennet (wings sides may be different, can't remember)
Spaling-Goc-Farnham/Rust

I'm sure everyone's advanced stats #'s will be better when we can stop shuffling line mates like a deck of cards (who am I kidding)

I was just thinking the same thing. RW did a great job with his gameday blogs setting up matchups and showing history between the 2 teams. I don't think we've had a gameday blog since last season.

It will always be a rivalry. Both teams get up for games against each other.

It seems like at least 2 blogs a week are slams on Sutter. Nothing on the Flyers at all today. Seems like RW and Sutter played together before and Sutter took his starting spot and turned his career into something. I'm almost convinced

Well its a hatred based mostly on fans appearance, just the way they look anger me greatly.

Then there is the fact that during the Leclair-Lindros days, you physically dominated us over and over again. Pretty much you played the style of hockey that I love; but you played it against us; that I hated.

My only real problem with "advanced stats" are that they are all offensive-driven numbers and do not dig in to things like defensive positioning, shot blocking, and shot selection. If you allow the other team to take 35 shots, but they're mostly unscreened shots from the perimeter, and you take 17 shots from good scoring areas, you're a bad team.

Scoring chances should be the measure rather than shots.

It won't always be a rivalry, at least on the Flyers side. Once Crosby, Malkin, and Letang go away in 10 years or so, the Pens will fall back to where they were pre-2005, behing the Rangers, Devils, Bruins, and Maple Leafs. For us, it's more of an individual player hate as opposed to a team hate like the other teams I mentioned.

1. Why do 2 playoff series 15+ years ago matter?
2. Why would Bonnie and Carl upset you, since they were a bad deal for your "rival?" Wouldn't you like that?
3. I don't know what you're referring to.
4. Rob Brown had it coming.
5. We poached nothing. He was a UFA and chose Philly.
6. You'd rather enjoy the harsh redneck faces of places like Nashville, Dallas, Calgary, etc?

I find it very humorous that Flyers fans try and downplay the rivalry, when they suck; but when they don't suck they parade around in Rocky underwear shadow boxing to eye of the tiger.

I, personally, have never felt a big rivalry with them. When we played you in 2006 and you beat us 8/8 times, I didn't care. You're just another team with 3 players (now that Neal's gone) that I don't like.

I'm not trying to downplay it, I just don't have high hopes for tonight. The Flyers aren't just bad, they're soft and often uninspired.

I mean, I hope it's a bloodbath that gets me screaming at the screen, but you know what they say: hope in one hand and poop in the other, see which hand fills up first

1. Why do 2 playoff series 15+ years ago matter? Happiness by Flyers and Flyers fans will never be taken lightly by me.
2. Why would Bonnie and Carl upset you, since they were a bad deal for your "rival?" Wouldn't you like that? Watching them on ESPN, made me hate the #1 channel in sports forever.
3. I don't know what you're referring to. Fans throw stuff, and hot nickels and batteries were the weapon of choice for Flyers fans in the late 90s
4. Rob Brown had it coming. True
5. We poached nothing. He was a UFA and chose Philly. Na that was a poach job, they waited until the 11th hour then over cut the Pens.
6. You'd rather enjoy the harsh redneck faces of places like Nashville, Dallas, Calgary, etc? I hate fans/people in general from all cities, im an equal opportunity hater, I just hate Flyers fans the most
