NHL prefers tighter races, right down to the last day of the season.

It will not change... good for marketing - especially in smaller / not traditional markets that don't have the money to build a top team, but appear to be playoff contenders.

If I was sure a guy could become a 80-90 pts player in the NHL, I would surely not wait in the 6th round to pick him because I'd be afraid some other team would pick that guy before me. If you think otherwise, you are the one who's (frank)ing dumb.
