Yikes. Good question. Weber's 29 though. Not sure if one wants to really do that. |

To either respective team? Because it's all about context. |

Don't think the pick gets moved. Whoever drafts McDavid will keep McDavid. Unless McDavid comes out straight up and says (frank) you all im going to the leafs to be the saviour and pull a Lindros |

Yes... A 19 year old pegged as the next generational player. Weber and Doughty are franchise players but not generational and they are both into their prime years. |

I'd do it if I was LA or Nashville.

No kidding. Ness and I were joking about the same thing the other day...
She asks "Kessel's still young right?".
I'm like "Nope... getting a little long in the tooth. He's 27". |

Not really, if there is no goalie out there that is worth getting or age appropriate compared to bernier, then signing bernier to that contract is fine, just as the flames did for hiller. As long as we having someone relatively decent holding down the fort with young talent whichever way we go, either that be selling off the team or not, we still need someone there in net. And i dont want reimer there holding down the fort. So relieving reimers salary cap will bring some cap back to us. And the Dion trade was fine because we sent out garbage the other way. Least Dion has some value. 7M that he got signed to is still moveable. - DougGilmour_93
Number one Bernier hasn't played a third of the games Hiller has. 2, Hiller is signed for 2 years, not 5 or 6 or 7... Reimer has jack to do with it, other than if necessary he can play next year if Bernier is unreasonable and wants out. Bernier hasn't proven nearly close to enough to garner a long term deal, the Leafs as far as I know still have control over him as well in FA terms. You give him 2 years thats the most, if he doesn't like it you qualify him. Handing money willy nilly to guys that aren't proven is the exact way they got in this mess to begin with, you really want to hand 5 years of the Leafs net to a guy with nary a playoff game to his name, thats nuts IMO... |

Used to be. Now if you're a D man and you aren't an NHLer by 23, you're probably not making it. |

So what do they do if a Bibaeau is better in 2 years?.. Have a 5-6 million dollar back up? What if a young goalie becomes available via trade and comes in like Bernier did and is better than him? No way IMO, 2 years max, if your the real deal, you can do it for 2 more years and prove your consistent... but in the end the club will for sure give him what he wants, and probably move out someone else to get it done... |

Also Doughty plays nearly 30 min a night. He asks for more and more responsibility every year. It's definitely not a decision you'd want to make in the blink of an eye. |

i really don't think management is sitting there questioning their goal tending right now when there is bigger issues at the moment either way bernier will get a longer deal than 2 years |
