And it starts by gutting the core...dion/kessel. But hey, if youre satisfied with them, thats your prerogative.
I think any smart hockey mind would tell you a winger is the least important position in hockey. So no u dont build around him. - clark_griswold
hey brick wall, he's already here, already done deal, have him already
happy with Kessel, he isn't the problem, fix everything else and he'll be just fine |

Your 8 million dollar guy has to be a franchise player, a dressing room leader, and either a big time C, or a bona fide no. 1 D. He can't be a guy who plays half the game, has zero leadership, and is a petulant whiny little biitch who needs to grow up. |

Kane is making over $10m next year, is essentially the exact same player as Kessel, and has two cup rings in the past 4 years.
Kessel is NOT the problem, the problem is the other folks around him. Bozak/Dion/Franson/Lupul/Clarkson =/= Toews/Saad/Sharp/Keith/Seabrook. |

When Phil scores the Stanley Cup winning goal in overtime, he can whine all he wants!

It is Kessel's fault that he plays only one side of the red line, and that he acts like a child instead of a professional. Brutal example for our young players. |

No he's not. But he's the franchise player. And if you get paid 8 million large, you gotta bring more to the table than Phil. |

Points over the last 4 seasons? Phil has 278, Kane has 263. Neither is physical (Kane is listed as 5'11, 177 lbs on NHL.com) and neither plays particularly solid defense. Both have been questioned for attitude (Kane of course punched a taxi driver, as well as spent many summers partying hard). They seem pretty similar to me.
(Oh, should I mention that Kane played alongside Toews, Kessel alongside guys like Bozak and Crabb...) |

Again...hes not a player you build around. Hes a complimentary piece, albeit an important one, to the types of guys you build around. Hockey teams tend to follow their best players example. Weird how the leafs and kessel are almost identical: very inconsistent, with lots of zero effort games and a total lack of defense. On the flip side, they are always amongst the highest scoring teams in the league and show flashes of brilliance yet their compete level is always lacking..

Hard day at work.
Came home, needed to take the edge off. So I decided to knock back a rum and coke or two.
Didn't have any rum, so I just relied heavily on the Coke.
Stupid effing Coke! Didn't get me drunk!
Totally worthless.
Coke sucks.

I bet it will. Partly depends on how Bowman handles the supporting cast going forward.
Also, cap going up. |

Or put another way, Phil Kessel is playing with a guy who 30 teams passed on drafting 7 times each, at least 3 years in a row.
Last time I checked (admittedly a week or so ago), Blozak was top 30 in the league in scoring.
But ignore all of this - I wish we had 7 guys like Komarov!

It's funny watching these guys on Hockey Central pre game. I think they know the players/organization is pissed with the media. They've been critical but are throwing positives in all the time. They're scared of pissing the Leafs organization off. Even Healy had some slight praise for Phil the fatty. |
