Again...hes not a player you build around. Hes a complimentary piece, albeit an important one, to the types of guys you build around. Hockey teams tend to follow their best players example. Weird how the leafs and kessel are almost identical: very inconsistent, with lots of zero effort games and a total lack of defense. On the flip side, they are always amongst the highest scoring teams in the league and show flashes of brilliance yet their compete level is always lacking..

November, put him on waivers to terminate his contract basically for 2 reasons, he sucks and he needs to make up some of the lost money from buying out his contract

I don't disagree that Kessel is not a guy you build around. It doesn't usually work for wingers. See Washington.

However, I don't think he will be or needs to be traded right now. If the team wants to tank then sure go ahead. If they are looking to make cap room there's better pieces.

We can't have everything. We can't get a good return AND remove cap space. We can pick one when making a deal.

I think any smart hockey mind would tell you a winger is the least important position in hockey. So no u dont build around him.

seriously... just listened to the media interviewing the Leafs after practice. They chose to interview Morgan Rielly... great put a 20 year old kid infront twenty cameras to comment on his teammates.

absolutely brilliant.

If you put Kessel on the auction block, at least 29 teams would call their management and scouting teams into the boardroom and at least discuss what they would be willing to offer.
