if Phils the problem why trade him for youth and picks, trade him for a couple of 2 way players.....
end of problem - the_eye
Phil isn't the problem. A lack of a homegrown cup calibre core is the problem. Phil is the only asset they have that could get you part of that core. |

Dion for Lecavalier.
- iTOLDu
Why in God's green earth would you do that?
If we are tanking, I'd rather give away Dion (which I wouldn't do - he has value) than trade for Vinny.
Sheesh. |

Leafs fans need to decide (and by that, I really mean Leafs management):
Do we want to tank or rebuild?
If we want to rebuild, trading Kessel is foolish.
If we want to tank, trading Kessel is a good idea.
I have no problem with people here advocating either side, as long as it's for the right reasons.
Trading Kessel for older guys is just stupid. - Atomic Wedgie
Trading Kessel for older guys would be the stupidest thing this team has ever done, and there is lots of competition for that title.
Why can't you tank and rebuild though? |

they have a crappy 1st pick with next to no prospects...we aren't taking any of their roster players unless it's couture and they wouldn't do that. Next - clark_griswold
So really there's about half a dozen teams who have the space and I think would like him on their team.
Sharks
Ducks
Nsh
Wild
LA
That's more than enough teams to get a bidding war. |

There is some hockey deals to be made but no players for draft picks or anything like that just yet. The next few weeks is a big test for this group. We will see who gives a response. Shanny will have some work to do. |

Please re-read my post, Tony - I'm OK with the tank plan.
I'm just saying if we are going to tank, we need to tank properly.
Trading Dion for Vinny is not tanking properly.

I'm going to disagree here - I think the next two weeks we will see the dead cat bounce.
It's after the next two weeks where we see the true colours of this team. |

I think Dion would get a first round pick and a decent guy back for cap space. Hell trade him to the Panthers for Campbell. Same cap. Less years. |

I agree with all of this.
Still confused about this though "Do we want to tank or rebuild?"
If you're going to rebuild properly, why wouldn't the tank be a part of that? |

assuming you're talking about Kessel... LA? ya... no. can't see the Wild taking on that contract either. Nashville is a great fit because there's no media and if Kessel so much as farts out of order Shea Weber will literally murder him. Ducks issue is keeping pucks out of their net more than anything so not sure an $8 million winger is top priority. Sharks could be an interesting fit but i don't imagine, after years of playoff failure, that Kessel is the missing piece.
Nashville is easily the best fit. |

Yeah about 10 games.
I'm hoping Nonis makes good on his promise and makes a move before the deadline. Like moving Gardiner for anything. Who cares if his value is low. Sometimes you have to cut your losses. |

I never said they were best fit. Just who'd like him on their team.
LA would have to trade Richards for it to happen but I could see that swap happening (against my wishes).
Wild I could see taking the contract. Maybe switching with Vanek? I don't know what the deals are but Clark was suggesting there's value because no "contender" has the cap space. |

LA would not be able to take him on..nor would they need to with their core. Minny is a possibility but theyre up against the cap too. Id love niederiter +. Sharks have zero assets for us. I support the Nsh and ana examples

Tony, Tony, Tony - quit thinking rationally! This is the Leafs!
Tanking is the smart thing to do. Sadly, that doesn't mean jack.
If management decides that they don't want to walk in the desert for 5 years, and instead just try to trade current players for other current players, then we need to keep Kessel (unless you can get a #1 centre for him).
Quit shaking your head, Tony. You know this is going to be what they end up deciding.
It's the deja vu that unites us all. |

If you put Kessel on the auction block, at least 15 teams would call their management and scouting teams into the boardroom and at least discuss what they would be willing to offer. |

No, really, you aren't.
Ask non-biased hockey fans - Dion doesn't suck nearly as much as wise comments at the bottom of TSN articles would have you believe. |
