Leafs are cursed man.
I like Burke a lot. But just when the Leafs were bad enough to finally bottom out and get a serious talent. We get a GM that has a humungous ego - that thinks he can do it better than anyone else before him, that thought since he is brian burke he doesnt have to rebuild properly. and traded away that pick that the leafs had needed for years.
Just the timing of it all.... such a shame. |

Vinny isn't coming to Canada. Said so himself. I believe he has a NMC as well.
Richards, the guy who was bought out from the Rangers? He doesn't have the ability to lead a team.
I'd prefer a move for a guy like Callahan. I thought the signing wasn't good but he's proven me wrong. - Aaron_85

I'd say that he should have bought out Liles instead of trade for Gleason, used a regular buyout on Komi, and not bought out Grabo.
Clarkson is overpaid by at least half his salary given what he brings. - lumlums
this is exactly what the leafs should have done.
even if they wanted grabo out, you keep him - he has value...get the value up and move him for a 7th...there is a reason he was signed by washington for 1 year then given 5 mil a year for the next 4 years...randy was too stupid to figure that out and nonis should be fired for that and bringing in clarkson, then signing dion to 7 year deal.
sorry but thats just a trail of mistakes. |

Don't completely poop on Nonis. Immediately after the firing of Burke he made a couple of moves that actually really reinvigorated the team - and I believe those moves were the reason that Kadri is part of the team now.
1) waived Connolly (thank the lord - what was Burke thinking)
2) waived Komisarek (again - thank the lord)
he did make some "gutsy" moves - the move for Bernier which involved giving up some assets and the move for Bolland (which while it was too expensive) was a reasonable gamble.
unfortunately he paid Clarkson about 1M too much. - BorjeFan4Ever
Wasted one of his compliance when he had only knew year left, should have waived Liles, instead they trade hims dn then regular waive Gleason anyway... |

Bernier trade was good.
Everything else was either obvious, or was simply bad.

You put way too much stock in Staal. Outside of the shortened season, he hasn't been PPG since 07/08... And it's not like he's a defensive beast. - Feeling Glucky?

Kadri gets another chance at it.
You nervous? Because the poop winds are ready to stir for your boy. - Lee Denault
Why would I be nervous?? He's be really good this year, and he's been facing tougher matchups and getting more dzone starts.
The bar he has to live up to isn't very high. |

* No, Mike, the 4th line C in LA
**Yeah, Mitch Callahan
Let's get tougher if we are tanking anyway - TheThrill
I like Mike less than I like Brad.
I don't think he cares enough. He paid some lip service about working hard and getting back to the way he used to play. Hasn't happened. He is coasting in LA with his 2 cups and 5+ mil a year. I doubt he steps it up in Toronto. |

I don't get the Franson signing and yet moving Phaneuf. Franson's career year has been playing with Phaneuf. Just like the other guys who played with Phaneuf. They looked better.
Franson has yet to make one of his partners ever look better.
This would be akin to when Carle became a "great" dman after playing with Pronger. (Note I'm not saying Phaneuf is as good as Pronger but hopefully anyone reading gets my point) - Aaron_85
i view it pretty simply - Dion is a pretty good defensemen - but he's not viewed as being a good captain in Toronto. He's paid too much for what he brings to Toronto - and he's paid too much if he's not the Captain. Moving him clears up a "philosophical logjam" ... nothing more.
I don't dislike the guy nearly as much as some on here... but his salary sets a precident much like Komisarek's did prior to having to sign Schenn. Too much money
Clear out his 7M on defense, and you'll not have to pay any d-man more than 5m per.
replace his minutes by committee.

My point is, there is not 30 of them in the league. Team d will make the change, not moving Dion. Same with legit #1 centers.. |

I am not real sure we are much better off with Hall or Seguin + Hamilton + Knight(?)
Yeah, maybe today we are a little better off, but we won that trade for the first 5 years.

Beauchemin and Komi, played well in other cities, if they played well in To that pick is 10th or 12th or something, not sure anyone predicted they would be that bad... |
