Carter Ashton will be sent to the Marlies now that he's cleared waivers. The #leafs want to get him playing.

Find it so funny that we needed a winger for sundin for a decade... Now we need a center for Phil....

I get what you are saying. Im not blaming him. IN fact, i heard a few different analysts yesterday use the 'kessel to kane comparison'. I've been using that for years with Phil. I'm just saying he's a bit of a douche. Lots of guys are. He's not the sole problem, but with the cap situation etc. unfortunately we can't add the leaders necessary. Hence, he is the problem indirectly.
- clark_griswold

And once again, I beg you to let this sink in:

If the Leafs had an extra $7 million in cap space, it wouldn't make a difference. There are no UFA #1 centres.

Quit saying that Kessel's contract is a problem. It isn't. Not at all.

We resigned him - it cost us absolutely nothing in opportunity costs.

Yesterday I asked you what you would do with an extra $7 million dollars in cap space if you were GM - your tepid answer was that you would buy out a few players, which adds absolutely nothing to the Leafs' roster.

Quit saying that Kessel's contract is a problem. It isn't.

Period.

This is absolutely correct.

For those of us old enough to remember the early 90s runs, Toronto was THE place to play hockey.

There was a 4X4 - I want to say it was a Ford - that actually had a "Felix Potvin Edition."

I poop you not - a Felix Potvin Edition to a truck. And people bought it.

I've always maintained this: the Leafs need to get good before they can get great. They need to win a couple of playoff series, and have the fans go ape-poop.

Then players will want to start playing here again.

- Atomic Wedgie

As I didn't move to Canada until 2005 I have a question for you. Back then, where the press as anti-Leafs as they are now?

You have inside knowledge of this?
- Lee Denault

I've met Phil for about 1 minute. So i can't speak directly if he's a douche. I've met and hung out with several other NHLers and their reputation is pretty bang on.

Seguin (party animal, totally in to himself, loves extra carricular substances)
Del Zotto (similar to seguin)
Wayne Simmonds (very serious but pleasant dude)
Georges Larague (super nice guy)
Ryan Kesler (absolute Dbag)

I don't believe everything i hear, but why would all these ppl who have connecetions to kessel make this up? Why didn't they make it up about other players (even in the past when they were struggling, it's always been Kessel. In Boston, here, always the same)

All this crap about if the leafs falter this year. Some serious thought about the core must happen this summer.....

Didn't we hear this same poop last year? Weren't changes suppose to happen last summer?

Nothing is going to happen if they falter...

- Lee Denault

With Shanahan taken over just prior to the draft did not give him time to evaluate their actual talent.

I think there will be changes /trades of player(s) during the off season

It's Phil's problem that Nonis isn't doing HIS job?
- lumlums

In all fairness to Nonis - although this theory would also be part of his responsibility...but, there is no doubt other GM's are lowballing, waiting for the wheels to fall off and try to catch Nonis in a desperate position. Maybe it's better at this point that he is not trading for the sake of making trades.
In saying that, Lupul had to be traded during this last stretch of healthiness.
BINGO!

That's the point. We need to bottom out. But i guess you just are happy with staying the course? Full blown dynamite is the only answer. Sucks, because it will be a good 5 years before respectability, but better than being stuck in purgatory. It was not a tepid answer at all.

Back check? Be a leader? Block a shot? Provide an outlet for the D? Hit someone? Take a hit even?
- gravyface

I dont care if he blocks a shot. Id rather him not get hurt. I believe patrick kane has similar blocked shot numbers.

3 years of collapses and flirting with a 4th. There is nothing 'knee jerk' about it
- Lee Denault

moves like clarkson and bolland were for Nonis... wasted money and assets for avg talent you can get cheaper

if BS needs to take his time to see who should be kept and who should be moved..thats fine. the fact is we couldnt get a clear picture with RC as coach.. now he is gone we will start to see what is what imo

so I do think expecting BS to tear it down before properly evaluating them himself is knee jerk and would do more long term damage than good

our problem is bad defense and the forwards not helping out the D enough.

of course part of that is a bad coach with a bad system that wasnt tweaked what so ever.

the other issue is the constant in/out of players ...establish a core you want to stick with and stick with it...like Chicago.

Keith
Toews
Kane
Sharp

the rest is basically filler other than your odd guy like Saad, Seabrook who are above mid range...basically our Lupul/Polak

which is sad that Polak is our second best D...

Exactly. Clarkson at $5.25m? Problem. Overpaid by at least $2.5-3m. That's the type of contract that's a problem.

And this doesn't even consider guys like JvR, Santorelli, Winnik,Holland who are paid peanuts relative to their actual market value...
