Not sure who Poops and Giggles play for, but I think McDavid and Eichel may be worth taking a chance on.
- Woderwick

You'd gut the team (trade Kessel, JVR, Rielly, etc) for a slight chance at one of those guys? To me that is insane.

Anyone who plays as much as he does against the other teams best players has got to be tough IMO.

I get your point and know where you're coming from tho.

Shanahan was hired a year ago... Its time for something to happen
- Lee Denault

true

but he didnt just make changes for the sake of making changes

he even extended randy so that he could figure things out before he made any moves

patience is a nice change

i just hope he doesnt wait to long and makes some smart moves

we need more players with pride, hard work and who are not given 5+ mil just to get them here.

young players who are hungry - guys like santorelli are great for filling the bottom 6, but we need the elite talent players at the top to play a better 200ft game, kessel included.

look at yzerman, he used to be a points machine, he dedicated his game to playing better 2way and look what happend. a dynasty.

not saying thats going to happen for TO, but imrpovement would be nice, even when you lose a game you can say at least they gave it their all.

Trade the core for as many picks as humanly possible, settle for young players and prospects if you must...

No thats sucking....not tanking.....almost the same result though.
- Fakepartofme

A top 5 pick in the best draft in 10+ years is the goal. If you can accomplish that while dumping high priced contracts (Dion, Lupul, Gardiner, Clarkson, Franson, etc) and adding more 1st/2nd round picks and prospects at the same time, (frank)in' eh.

They need to reset, Shanny needs to choose an identity/philosophy for the team, eg. possession, physical, defensively responsible.... hire his own GM who buys in, who hires his own coach and AHl coach who buy in, and bring up a young core drilling that style of play into their development from day one. That's how you get a DET/BOS/LA/CHI type of team culture that new additions know they need to buy into or they get sat or moved.

Otherwise, we'll all be on Leaf forums 10 years from now whining about the same poop.

Something was supposed to happen last off season. Everyone wanted it.. No way they could stand pat after 3 straight collapses.... Riemer asked for a trade surely there will be some moves......

....... Yeah

pretty sure there was a culture change

I don't think that's enough time to fix a team as broken as the Leafs. It is disappointing that he left Nonis here when he's clearly a garbage GM but it's possible that he just didn't feel anyone better was available or that the guys he has in place to replace him needed more time to learn the business aspects or whatnot.

We can only hope that things are headed in the right direction. I do like that Shanahan seems to be bringing people in who probably have a more modern approach to the game though. No more dinosaurs.

- daeth

People are placing way too much stock in the fact that Nonis is still around.

This is shanahan's shop, the leafs need someone whos run an NHL team around to perform various duties. I strongly suspect he has next to no player personnel authority anymore lol

Just because a player is soft, does not mean he is not tough. He can take a pounding and keep in the line up... Is that not tough. Allfie, soft but tough. Sundin...

Somethings gotta give this off season, not because they're playing badly but because of the cap and our free agents.
- Bigzby

shanny needed a year to see what he has
I don't care what line of work you're in, you don't take over a company and start getting rid of your to guys before knowing what you have and where you need to improve. Randy was the first and most logical step but right now every team looking to make the playoffs are tight to the cap. The rest are tanking and don't want to trade top picks for players that will probably help their team right now.

I'm not saying gut. They look to be doing a fine job right now. Don't change a thing - it may work.

I'm talking tough in the context of being seen as tough to the opposition, having some intimidation in your game...
