Not sure it has to be a total tank... Trading Dion for a pick and defensive d man isn't going to make the Leafs fall to last, not would trading Lupul, he's injured often anyway... They can make moves and still compete, I'd wager just ridding themselves of these lazy players alone would actually make them harder to play against, don't have to have big names to work hard... - aminnes
I know it's tough to compare different sports, but the Raptors pulled a complete 180 by trading away one lazy all-star player for a bunch of hardworking scrubs. |

Teams not clipping along right now but they are not in the season is lost category. Still have a shot at making the playoffs if they play some consistent hockey...7-3-2 in the last 12 or something like that - DDM-Coga
landeskog and oreilly in my pool - ive been happy they have started to turn it around!
just sayin; if losses pile up over years changes will happen. |

I think youre starting to get mine.
People here need to stop defending the player they have on their jersey they bought. I have a gardiner jersey. Youll never see me defend him - Lee Denault

I understand the Edmonton arguement, but you team has serious holes also. I believe a deal could be there.
Would it be an easy one to make, no, probably not for either team. I think the cost would be a nasty surprise for most Leafs fans, but I could see a posisbility.
... I also doubt it ever happens. - Aetherial
Lots of holes but Duchene is a true number 1 and MacK is in no mans land right now. He is being shift to RW and really is dangerous once he plays with a responsible Center like ROR or Stastny last year...I think make is our RW long term
ROR is the guy that could be moved if anything |

If that is the approach, then yeah, they need to Sabres-tank. That means Kessel, Phaneuf, JVR ... literally everyone of any value. - Aetherial
Guys, guys.....the leafs will not be tanking anytime soon.
Dont set yourself up for disappointment.
There will not be fire sale....unless they are moving one quality player for another.
Kessel + Nylander+Percy +some picks for Toews. Done!
But seriousl...they wont be dumping a bunch of "talent" for picks |

Look at how many high picks they've had over the years and nothing has changed. Leafs fans (I don't even mean you, everyone in here is talking tank) are always looking for the easy fix but it's just not realistic to think that tanking is all they need to do to improve themselves.
I don't know if Shanahan is on the right path but maybe he is. We'll find out. - daeth
Leafs.. High picks? Reilly and kadri have been good.
Not everyone turns into toews. Thats nit the way it works |

Look at how Detroit builds. That is what Toronto should be trying to model themselves after. You don't need to tank to get good, you just need to consistently draft well and develop your players properly while avoiding terrible contracts. - daeth
It's the perfect year to tank...the absolute perfect year for it. We've already seen enough of this lot to know it ain't happening. Embrace it, but please cheer for wins to ensure we get what we want...more losses. |

Just need to get harder to play against. Look at Calgary blue collar lunch box group with size and effort. Thats all you can ask win or lose. - Bigzby
Throw in a few Leaf castoffs in Cow town as well, and they won't make the playoffs, but they are developing a culture of hard working hockey, thats the start of a true rebuild... |

that has nothing to do with a dion jersey
ive liked dion since he was on the jr team and he was a beast in calgary
hes had some good moments in TO
but like i said, he's lost his nasty edge i feel and he should be the FIRST guy to stand up for his teammates, and himself.
ive had many a leaf jerseys over the years and il never defend the player just cause i own there jersey thats just sheer crazy talk! |

Im torn on this team right now. If they some how sneak into the playoffs this just will reaffirm Roys and Sakics blunders with extending Cliché, Guenin, Holden, McLeod, Stuart. These guys are part fo the problem not the solution and should not be anywhere near an NHL roster
If they go into the toilet then he will have to look at getting rid of these garbage can. |
