i've seen him play with plenty of people, not really buying the timo angle with him
- -davies-

He can be solid with others, but he's had issues when he has to be the top guy. He struggled badly in the lockout season, when he wasn't paired with Kimmo, then got hurt.

He's just not the same player he used to be. Maybe it's confidence who knows, but his level of play has definitely been deteriorating these last 2 seasons.

Im a fan, always enjoyed how he stepped up when playoff time came around but if you can get a 1st round pick for him i'll drive him to his next team.

What's puzzling is how the monster contracts we gave to a couple islanders scrap heap pieces isn't quite working out

Love the idea of holmer being the interim coach. Ok holmer, you picked out the ingredients now show us how to make it

The MacDonald contract is just horrid, and impossible to move. I really see value in Streit but ...Happy Meal... No way!

Couturier's been fine defensively, the other have been awful. But toss Timonen into that mix. Coburn's not trying to do too much, Grossmann has a smaller role...
- Jsaquella

I dont see how you can say Couturier has been fine defensively and then single out Read if we are talking PK..

As a whole the 4 of them have been horrible on the PK.

Canes win again! Could Jordan Staal throw a monkey wrench into the mcdavid hunt? Stay tuned! As a bonus. We'll examine how the canes ridding themselves of jay harrison couldnt have mattered at all and they wound up with a pick to boot!

I have 0% issue with the Streit contract..he has been a solid number 2-3 dman since her got here. Sadly he is the closest we have to a number 1 right now.

MacD..different story all together.

They have been. They also miss not having RJ Umberger on the PK. But, I do notice Read's mistakes more than Couturier's-bad clears, running around to much, drifting off coverages.

Sorry to come in late. If we're talking about Coburn, he's in an interesting situation right now. We all know he's a good defenseman, maybe our best. For the most part of this season he's played on the left side opposite Nick Shultz. For most of his career playing the right side to Timonen, Grossmann and Hatcher. Looking back at the half season when Coburn struggled prior to his injury, he played left opposite Bruno Gervais. Playing that left side or simply flip flopping him might be an issue. I think it's underestimated how good that Grossmann/Coburn pair really was when shutdown Malkin in 2012. In fact, it hasn't been said outloud but I feel Grossmann has been our best defenseman this season in his own zone.

Grossmann-Coburn
MacDonald-Streit
Del Zotto-Schultz

Give Streit/MacDonald offensive starts, give Coburn/Grossmann defensive starts. Mix it up with whomever on the third pair.

Trade 2 of MaCdonald, Grossman, Schenn and Shultz. Best return determines who goes.

MacDonald has zero trade value with his contract. Schultz is a pending UFA. Unless he agrees to a new deal at his current salary, I'd definitely move him. Between Grossmann & Schenn, I'd rather keep Schenn and try to see if a bigger role helps him solidify his game.

At this point of the season, I want to see MDZ, Schenn and Colaiacovo playing more regularly. The rest is shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic. They're not making the playoffs, now is the time for evaluation and development.

Nah, just see if playing more minutes with a more solid partner can bring some stability to his game

I know. Berube doesn't have the patience for that though. I imagine playing for him is like walking on eggshells.

I have to admit I would also like to see Colaiacovo play more. He is definitely not worse than what is out there. Grossmann and Coburn could be our extra 1st and 3rd round picks this year. I am sure they could sign an UFA in the off season if they were able to get rid of those guys. Getting rid of AMac would be ideal but the chances of that are about the same as getting rid of RJ Zombie

That's one f my big issues with Berube. If he benches a guy, unless there's an injury or really poor play, that guy ends up getting buried.

The thing that drives me crazy is going into this season I thought to myself "man we have a shutdown PK pair in Couturier and Read." To this point of this season they are far from that.
