All the GMs in the NHL know the flyers are up against the cap and unhappy with Vinnys contract/play so they don't really have any leverage in trading him. I think they'll end up buying him out at the end of the season but that doesn't help them this year - goirish
aren't buyouts over with. i thought that ended this last off season? |

Regular buyout means the team still has a cap hit. |

Not quite.
They still have 2/3rds of the cap hit, spread out over twice as long.

I believe his point was that the compliance buyouts do not count against the cap at all. |

The market for Vinny is pretty soft as there do not seem to be too many natural fits for him (teams needing an offensive center and posessing the cap space to fit him). Therefore, the Flyers would likely need some combination of 1) expecting nothing in return, 2) retaining some of Vinny's salary, 3) sweetening the pot with a pick or player, to complete a trade.
All that aside, if Vinny continues to play well and contending teams start losing #1, #2, or #3 Cs (or even RWs), the market for him will improve substantially. Injuries will happen - its an NHL reality - and when they do, the Flyers would get more (or have to give up less) for Vinny.
If no one wants him or wants to give up anything or will accept not getting picks/players, the Flyers will just keep him. A buyout won't make sense until there are 2 or fewer years left on his deal (after next season). |

I agree with you guys that are saying different teams need to be in the Winter Classic but you're exaggerating a bit... Nobody has done it more than twice lol |

Personally I'd like to see the Lightning vs the Panthers at Legends Field in Tampa |
