In fairness, is Erhoff better than Niskanen? Don't say it bc he's on your team now which is a better team than the Sabres. I personally would have preferred Niskanen bc I think he's better at D, but also its by opinion too.

Throw contracts aside and evaluate who's the better dman, that's what I do, then the contracts come in play after.....

Ehrhoff has had 10+ goals 3 times and 30+ points 6 times. Niskanen is at half of that. Niskanen was a late bloomer and is pretty good, but Ehrhoff is the better D. I actually thought the same as you though until I watched him play this season. Ehrhoff is the better all around defender, in every category.

I was able to do this on capgeek for next year, while Perron comes over this year with Dupuis' cap relief for this year

Perron-Sid-Horn
Kunitz-Geno-BB
Comeau-Sutter-Dupes?
Spaling-Sundqvist-Downie

Letang-Maatta
Despres-Erhoff
Pouliot-Harrington

I bought out Scudz, traded Dumoulin and a 1st for Perron (maybe another mid round, who knows) and gave everyone who resigned a healthy raise. Kasperi can play down in the AHL to get used to American rinks for a while and develop. Everyone was given a healthy raise (Comeau 2.5, Downie 2 Hoff 5.75) and I still was under the current cap by around 400k. Now with the cap going up next year, we will have even more wiggle room. Tell me you wouldn't ride that roster to the Cup

They're different players, but I would say that they are in the same ballpark talent-wise. Ehrhoff has a better track record when you go back to his Vancouver days. Niskanen is right handed, so that helps his value.

I like them both. If Shero would have locked Nisk up prior to last season he would have gotten a descent discount from what his current rate is. My concern with a 5 year deal for Erhoff is he turns 33 this summer

See, I think Erhoff is much better offensively (hands down) but I've watched Niskanen get better every year... U have an offensive team so pts would amount to any PP dman, like Niskanen had good numbers last year. if u get my point...

And that's what surprised me. Ehrhoff came in and was placed in a less sheltered role and excelled. He isn't given offensive zone starts nearly as much as Niskanen was and hasn't been a power play guy. He is just crushing it five on five and has been an effective PK'er

He's also a fantastic skater and has a great shot. We could stand to see it more going forard. Letang, Ehrhoff and Pouliot should all rotate on the PP QB spots. Depends what look you want but they're all valuable.

Certainly. I think moving forward he will continue to put more on himself to generate offense, not unlike Despres right now. That is something that will help out in a big way.

Pouliot-Letang
Maatta-Harrington (former successful OHL partners)
Ehrhoff-Despres
Bortuzzo (RFA)

This setup doesn't have a "bottom pairing". It has three solid pairings and is extremely cost effective for the near future. Find me a better defense corp. for ~20M.

sure thing

Erik Karlsson $6.5M
Paul Martin $5.0M
Codi Ceci $0.9M
Jared Cowen $3.1M
Eric Gryba $1.3M
Mark Boroweicki $1.1M
Patrick Wercioch $2.0M
=======
$19.9M

That's 7 for under $20M that is comparable to your 6.

With Ehrhoff likely dressing tonight, who sits out of Pouliot or Harrington?

My pick is to sit Pouliot.

Harrington. Try to generate as much offense as possible. Bennett is back too. Can't wait.

Has Klein cooled off yet? He was doing really well early on.

His defensive game has always been great but offensively he's taken off this year. He's cooled off the last few games...hit a post last game that would've tied it.
