Scotty Bowman was fired twice, doesn't make him a bad coach. Mac T stepped down because at the time he felt that after 9 years he was getting stale and the team was going through a rebuild (part 1).
He did coach a bunch of plumbers to game 7 of the SC finals, but you probably weren't following the team back then to remember it was system play and team defence that got them there.

According to most it was all Pronger. After Pronger left how did that system play and team defence work out?

Yeah, I thought so.

I think he will be good, but not someone I want in return for Hall. I read a few of the offers, very few are more than a poor low ball offer so far.

In here, that's all you're going to get. I rarely see a decent trade proposal on HB.

What, you don't like Garths proposal?

So, what should a Hall trade package look like?

The Oilers can use two NHL D-men and a first round draft choice. I'm talking about Tyler Myers, Mark Pysyk, and a 2015 first rounder (St. Louis pick).

Okay so you don't watch the games and forgot that we also lost Peca , Spacek and Samsanov that summer, and soon after that Stoll and Greene followed by Smyth?

Come on man, hate all you want but at least give Mac T some credit for being a good coach.
Then again, why let any facts get in the way of your arguement.

I don't know what his value is to be honest, but I would try for :
Hall for OEL

Or
Hall + for Hanzal and Yandle

Something like that would be worth a gamble I think.

Well if Eakins says the best player on the team is uncoachable then trade him. He would have no reason to make it up. I remember other coaches saying Hall had a never lose attitude. At his prices, I think they will keep him for a while. At least till his value goes up.
- Hall Fan

Read the article again numb nutz, nowhere does it say Eakins said any of that poop. Plus it's Dreger so.....

To call Garth a retard is an insult to the intelligence of downs syndromes everywhere.

Personally I'd be more comfortable with OEL then the other package. Whether or not the value is there.

I think they keep OEL. Yandle's deal expires soon and they probably can't afford to keep him at what he'll want. OEL, on the other hand, is locked up for a longer term at a cap-friendly $5.5 mil. Unless it was for a guy like McDavid (who might turn their franchise around), I can't see them doing it.

I agree. OEL could make a huge impact on the Oil. Move Perron and Pouliot up and find a new 3LW.

Hard to see an NHL team moving a franchise type D like him anytime soon. Too few and far between. If it became clear that moving Hall was necessary. What's your most realistic dream trade?

Obviously Hall for Joe Thornton is the answer cm on guys. If not that I'm sure Luke schenn lecavalier and a 2nd can get it done.

Can't see Arizona trading OEL. Especially if they move Yandle. Top pairing dmen and top line centres are near impossible to get in a trade.

Ok, my take on the Oilers is that they put together a group which couldn't compete. There's no balance on this team. The forwards can't score because they are too small, avoid getting hit and play on the periphery. We all know there's huge problems with the D & in net.
So, MacT can only do so much with the Team he inherited, but as a rookie, he made mistakes, as many of us expected. Hiring a rookie coach was his biggest mistake IMO. Now he wants to bring in Nelson? Not a bad record in the AHL, but this team needs an NHL-experienced coach.
Time for Katz to clean house, from Lowe to the scouting staff. I'd rather keep MacT as a coach than GM, but at this stage, he's got to go too. Enough with the Alumni---they've had their chance and failed miserably.
