I think the ending is the real failing, as it's such a juxtaposition (the hobbits come home as men and magic leaves Middle Earth). Other than replacing that very impactful scene with a 45 minute curtain call of jumping on the bed, I though the movies were great, especially the battle scenes in Two Towers.
As for The Hobbit, the chase scenes are ridiculous and I find them harder to enjoy. The definitely charged the ominous tones of the first film into a lighter, more adventure based theme, but it's just a bit much to process all the running around.
Having said all that, I visited Hobbiton in New Zealand last month and it was absolutely unreal. Such a cool place to visit. The country of NZ considers Jackson a national hero for bringing all that work and tourism to them. - micah555
The chase scenes are (frank)ing garbage. And that is awesome visiting Hobbiton/the LOTR film sites is on my bucket list |

If Mario Lemieux played hockey in today's NHL, without the hooking and interference, he'd score 200 points every year. |

Nasty little buggers. We got a ton of them in rural Q.C, got a huge pack around my house, so much so that they cloud the roads at night and I'm forced to run through em ( No I don't run them over like most folk) so they tend to surround my house.
That howl, sounds as though their skinning a live baby |

I know Christopher Tolkien hates Peter Jackson and all of the movies but a lot of the people who worked on those movies were massive LOTR (books) fans. There was a lot that passed by the wayside when you compare it to the books, but to me it still captures the essence. I may be biased because I grew up on the movies though. The Hobbit was the first substantial(ish) book I read as a kid and so I have been much harder to please with the new movies. Beautiful visuals, but often cheesy and a bit of a cluster(frank). Would have loved to have been on set to give him a slap to the face and show him how to do it - bezz44
I think the Tolkien family's hatred of Peter Jackson stems more from the royalty payments that they spent a decade fighting for more than his adaption of the stories but I could be wrong.
I would agree that LOTR did capture the essence. At least as good as any single point of view can do for such a widely read and loved book. The LOTR trilogy was enjoyable.
The Hobbit, on the other hand, is a joke. Jackson got way too high on his own supply if he thought he could extend a 300 page book to 10 hours of film time, add in a series of often pointless subplots with attempted Tolkien dialogue to match, and arguably more CGI than Star Trek. |

He said "possibly".
Would you guys do:
Hamhuis or Tanev
Horvat
Shinkaruk or 2015 1st
for
Hall
Petry - Nucker101
I think the oil would go for a help me today more than the future ...tanev is a nice piece for them but the have an abundance of young centers and smallish forwards
If they did trade hall they would want higher ceiling players too |

I'm well known for my Coyote and other predator calling in BC. Not quite as good as a few of the Prairie boys I know... but highly successful for BC.

He got way carried away with CGI, frame rate, and other movie magic tricks and lost sight of what made the first trilogy great. That said, I still enjoy watching them for the simple fact that I am back in middle earth and some of the acting is very solid. |

It was a fun movie. Too many battles and less story than the LOTR. It's always interesting when you read a book and imagery comes to mind and then see someone else's view or perspective of the same.
What is confusing for me is how easily some elves and dwarves die and some are near indestructible. There is a scene where Bilbo is throwing rocks and knocking off Orcs and my son pointed out to me that the Orcs dropped so easily and then you see a fight where a guy gets hit time and again and still keeps going. Guess it isn't any different than the fight scenes in old westerns.
Park your brain at the door and enjoy the visuals.
I think in the books, the battles usually last longer than a half hour and may go on for days? But hard to do this in a movie. |

Play Sestito against one of the fastest teams in hockey and the league leading goal scorer, I hope not that would be terrible.
The Canuck's D just made the rangers look like offensive juggernauts, putting Sestito on the ice will make their job that much harder. If we were going to be playing LA or STL or some other grinding team, sure give Tom a chance but he is pretty useless when he is in game shape, I doubt he will be more effective after barely playing. |

Speed kills and we are having trouble matching up against fast teams.
Just trying to understand why Sestito was recalled from Utica and his conditioning stint?
The team really needs a trade to switch it up a bit. |
