LOL.
Actually the LOTR movies have been pretty well done for the most part...Hobbit movies too and the new Hobbit Battle of the Five Armies looks unreal good.
I read the books too and while I understand the lack of 'transfer' from the texts come on...you can't have word for word or frame for frame when it comes to making the movies vs the books. Not unless you want each movie 9 hrs and that would never fly. Jackson HAD to make it user-friendly for the masses that didn't read the books (which are most) and he did a damn bloody good job doing it. He did the best he could with what he had. Very well done.
But that new George Miller Mad Max Fury Road UK trailer looks UNREAL GOOD!!!!

For sure word for word would be awful. But there is a lot of fat that should've been trimmed with the Hobbit trilogy. Much like Dustin Byfuglien's last steak |

I didn't know Patty Kane was a heavy hitter. Unless of course we are talking about his stats vs. cab drivers - bezz44
We haven't had a Patty Kane since Bure.

Sorry Lordy, I have to disagree strongly.
Jackson and his screenplay hacks completely missed the entire point of LOTR and replaced it with mind-numbing chase scenes, stupid dialogue, and Liv Taylor.
It's a great looking movie but it does not capture the essence of what Tolkien was trying to portray to his readers. |

i hated that pick. Kid was already pretty built for an 18 year old.... exactly how was he going to improve on his strength to be able to compete. |

Ya it's all good. People have different views of it. The bottom line for me is that Tolkien's 'real message' will be debated for eons to come so I'm not even going to open that can 'o worms at all.
I just took it at face value and thought Jackson did a pretty damn good job given that the task of being 'accurate' to the books or message was next to impossible.

I know Christopher Tolkien hates Peter Jackson and all of the movies but a lot of the people who worked on those movies were massive LOTR (books) fans. There was a lot that passed by the wayside when you compare it to the books, but to me it still captures the essence. I may be biased because I grew up on the movies though. The Hobbit was the first substantial(ish) book I read as a kid and so I have been much harder to please with the new movies. Beautiful visuals, but often cheesy and a bit of a cluster(frank). Would have loved to have been on set to give him a slap to the face and show him how to do it |

I think the ending is the real failing, as it's such a juxtaposition (the hobbits come home as men and magic leaves Middle Earth). Other than replacing that very impactful scene with a 45 minute curtain call of jumping on the bed, I though the movies were great, especially the battle scenes in Two Towers.
As for The Hobbit, the chase scenes are ridiculous and I find them harder to enjoy. The definitely charged the ominous tones of the first film into a lighter, more adventure based theme, but it's just a bit much to process all the running around.
Having said all that, I visited Hobbiton in New Zealand last month and it was absolutely unreal. Such a cool place to visit. The country of NZ considers Jackson a national hero for bringing all that work and tourism to them. |
