Would the Senators not need to pay him if he took a new job? I would think they would still need to fulfill their contract with him regardless of if he takes another job or not??

There is some sort of exit/out-clause all coaches have in their contracts. Until Paul Mclean either signs with another team or his contract ends with the Sens, Ottawa will be on the hook to pay him. If he does decide to sign with another team before his contract with Ottawa is up, his contract with Ottawa will absolve and he will be getting paid by his new team only. By no way does Paul Mcleans current contract with Ottawa hinder him from accepting any new coaching position anytime he wants. So if he really wants to stick it to Ottawa though, he shouldn't accept a new job until his current contract is up and make Eugene eat it.
