Me neither, they'd still need a new coach and a little development from kadri, Holland, Reilly, Gardiner, but they are really close if they get those two.
But you wouldn't like the package Maloney would want for them. Which kind of leaves the team in a bad spot, because if they aren't willing to move Nylander, their first rounder and maybe even Rielly or JVR, they are going to have a hard time improving their roster. - James_Tanner

Tanner your an idiot! First of all....how could the leafs even fit Yandle or Hanzel without shipping back salary like Lupul or Clarkson......no GM not even JFJ would trade Reilly nylander or any of the above mentioned for What your suggesting. The Yotes suck....your knowledge of hockey is a joke.....and your constant suggestions of trading Yandle to toronto are just ridiculous. After reading your posts I truly believe you make everyone on this site a little dumber. |

It sure is a good thing I don't get sick of immature babies calling me names every time they disagree with something I write. Did you see the part where I proposed a trade? No, because I didn't. All I said was that the Leafs would have to part with some of their youth to acquire the guys who would help them win.
If you don't agree that Yandle is one of the best defenseman in hockey - and no qualifier for being "offensive" either - then you simply haven't watched him play or view the stats....which would mean you are giving an opinion without knowing what you're talking about and would make you calling me an idiot somewhat ironic.
Obviously a trade for a $5 million dollar player requires salary coming back the other way, but again, I did not suggest any trade, just guys the Leafs ought to get. I just don't see how suggesting they acquire the exact player they lack - a #1 D warrants in anyway this kind of abuse.
As for Hanzal, he's 6'8 or something and the Leafs sure as hell could use the size up the middle. He's lightyears better than Bozak too, so all in all, yes, I do think those two players would make the Leafs into contenders. Hanzal obviously isn't your typical #1 guy, but with Kessel and JVR on the wings, you don't exactly need a Stamkos at C.
And yeah, since Stamkos doesn't have a Kessel, I do think these two would make the Leafs the equal of TB, since they have a better goalie, Yandle would give them just as good, if not a better all-round group of defenseman and they already are pretty deep on forward, but now they have a C who can actually get down low and cycle the puck.

I'll say the only one I had issue there was Tanner. Can save the "sorry Leaf fans."
Leaf fans know better than anyone that this team can't contend for a Cup. It's a flawed team that has some good pieces, but not necessarily the right pieces. You don't even need possession stats to know that. The top line is the worst defensive line on the team and long as they are thrown head to head against other top lines that will lead to getting lit up.
There are areas on the team that are better than last. Some more depth, less riding of certain guys to the point of exhaustion, etc. But there isn't enough there and they are worryingly already capped out. Will be hard to improve on this bunch without moving guys out of that core and figuring out some miracle trades to get rid of bad contracts. |

agreed. you can argue online but that was ridiculous. It's a hockey fan site, just relax and chat (i don't even use the word 'argue'; should be 'converse .
as for playoffs, i don't see it but i've said that all along. They are playing well let's stick with that. I called bottom 5 and it's going against me for now..but they are not even that far above the buffalos etc. We shall see but you can't keep this hockey up and win consitently. |

Where is Hanzel better than bozak? In what stat? Points? Faceoffs? Short handed points.....no, no and no. Oooohhhhh he's big...well so is nik Antropov....maybe we should sign him again. The fact is this...you've suggested a trade of kadri and gardiner for Yandle on your blog....your constantly ripping on leaf fans....like who are you? Besides a no talent hack? I've seen Yandle play....he's outside the top 10 offensive dmen in the nhl....that's a fact....so stop with your pipe dreams of moving him for multiple first rounders and teams best young players....not going to happen. |

Yeah, that isn't happening. I also don't think that Yandle Hanzal are going to fetch that level of return.
How many times to people speculate on what a player will cost in trade. How many times do people way overestimate what the actual price was?

Their next four games are
Ducks at home
Away at Canes
Philly at home
Away at Hawks
I bet they go 2 and 2 and one of their losses is against the Canes. The Leafs tend to play hockey to the level they think their opponent is at. They play good against strong teams, and weak against weak teams.
It would be nice to see them get 6 points - 3-1-0 or 2-0-2 over this stretch but I'm thinking that's going to be hard to do. Then again I didn't expect them to win two sets of back to backs with Calgary and Det and Det and LA. 8 points for those games is hard to complain about.
I hope they keep it up.

Looking at basic stats for Yandle, he is a minus offensive defenseman. I will not argue that he is a good player, but OD is not what this team needs. Since 2010, his +/- has dropped steadily. A change of scenary might help him, but to continue the JFJ days of trading away draft picks is ludacris. Plus his give away take away ratio this season is already -20. Do the leafs actually need more give aways? I would think not. I am all for upgrades, but I don't think that Keith Yandle is the upgrade we actually need. A guy I would rather have is Matt Stone. -1 TO ratio, 83 BS and a respectable 55 hits. He averages 20 min a game and is 24. Sure Yandle is the hot name right now, i can turn on TSN to figure that out. But honestly, why waste our own draft picks, which I don't think Shanny is too keen on after spending a lifetime in the Detroit locker room. Why not use his brain, and Dubas's for that matter and draft and wait. Yandle doesn't send the Leafs to the cup final. We would end up giving way to much for something we don't need. |

I don't know whether to laugh, or feel sorry for you.
It's They're! It's conjunction of They and Are
Much like, it's You're... a conjunction of You and Are.
It's not "Your an idiot" or "Their idiots" it is "You're an idiot" and "They're idiots".
This is stuff you are supposed to learn in the third grade. But besides that, Tanner is an idiot. |

No intelligent Leaf fan thinks this team is a cup contender. For the most part, Leaf fans this year have been very careful about getting too excited. They still have a bunch bad habits...

I saw someone comment on the season like a bunch of 7 games series.
With 30 games so far this season the leafs are 4 x 7 games series in. DUH but here is their breakdown.
Mon loss 4-3
Pits loss 5-2
NYR win 6-3
Col win 3-2 OT
Det loss 4-1
Det loss 1-0 OT
NYI win 5-2
Lost first round 3-3-1 (some call it .500, I call it a loss) 20 GF and 21 GA
Bos loss 4-1
Buf win 4-0
CBJ win 4-1
Chi win 3-2
Ari loss 3-2
Col loss 4-3 SO
NYR win 5-4
Won the second round 4-2-1. 22 GF and 18 GA
Ott win 5-3
Bos win 6-1
Pits loss 2-1
Buf loss 6-2
Nas loss 9-2
TB win 5-2
Det win 4-1
Won the third round with a few blow out games. 4-3. 25 GF and 24 GA.
Pits loss 4-3 OT
Wash win 6-2
Dal win 5-3
NJ loss 5-3
Van win 5-2
Cgy win 4-1
Det win 2-1 SO
Won the forth round 5-1-1. 28 GF and 18 GA.
Det win 4-1
LA win 4-3 SO
1 goal games they are 5-3-3 with 2 of their wins coming in a SO. So they are average in close games. It seems like they are an all or nothing type team.
2 goal games they are 2-1
3 goal and more they are 11-5
Of their 30 games, over half of them have been decided by 3 or more goals. Yes, the Calgary game is in here with the 2 empty net goals but still, 11-5 in blowout type games is fairly good. 11 games decided by 1 goal (3-3 in extra time).
Toronto might be having some bumps in the road but it looks like they are improving as the season is going on. If this is the case, it's going to be a good year.
People say that teams cannot manage this pace, but they've paced it for 30 games so far. They are 15-6-2 in the last 23 games. Or to look at it in a points based system, 32 of 46 points or just above 69% of points available have been won. (I'm glad that didn't work out to 67)
I'm a forever hopeful and I hope that they can keep it rolling.
Side note:
Hanzal has a better FO% than Bozak by over 3%.
6'6" vs 6'1"
226# vs 195#
Left vs Right
27 vs 28 yrs old
Both have 1 assist in their last 5 games.

The East is wide open, anyone can win it. Adam French said it best...they can contend, but aren't a contender.. But LA won the cup a few years ago, as the 8th seed. Anything can happen.
When we made the playoffs in 2013, I seriously believed if we got passed Boston, we could've done damage and went to the SCF . |

So, was the sole purpose of this blog an attempt to riot Leafs fans who are enjoying the current hot streak?
We all know the wheels could fall off at any time. Nobody is planning a parade or thinks they are contenders.
Above all, don't (frank)ing apologize to us like we just found out we have cancer or something. As if we are all duped by this recent run into thinking that the Leafs are more than they are. That's more insulting than KingGilmour's unnecessary rants. |
