Good blog.
Is it purposeful? Im not sure anymore. The personnel decisions are questionable at best, and with a prize like Macdavid or Eichel at years end....who knows what a group of incompetents is capable of.
I do know this: the intentions mean nothing at this point. Either it's intentional, which is unacceptable, or it's not, which might be even scarier. Bottom line is, in any other organization with a record of futility like Edmonton's, the owner would have burnt it down, salted the earth and moved on. In Edmonton though, as long as you won a Stanley Cup 30 years ago, your job is safe.
I have no faith left. None. - TheTaoOfSemenko
Every Buffalo fan can relate to your pain. All Sabres fans were completely onboard with the tank but with the recent 9-3 streak, the mentality may be changing. There's nothing wrong with rebuilding like Calgary. Young players playing well and being rewarded with wins is very important.
Not icing your best possible team is BEYOND pathetic. |

I don't think he's the saviour. But at least they're trying something to get it going. Nothing else has worked. Want to keep doing the same thing? - Iggysbff
They've already tried the Hunt thing. It didn't work then. It won't work now. |

In no way did I say that Marincin would save the Oilers. I just stated that he is a better option on d than Hunt. Even if we get the pp going for every 1 pp goal we get I bet Hunt will be out there 5 on 5 for 2 goals against. Really Hunt should never see another contract from the Oilers after this one's up. Marincin on the other hand should be with this team for at least a few more years. Which one is more valuable to the future of our team? Definitely not Hunt an almost 30 year old career AHLer who's track record has shown he doesn't belong in the NHL. - Frank.Grimes
I never said you did say that, I'm just saying it's a moot point. Hunt is only 26 and maybe he has settled down and figured out what it takes after playing under Nelson in the minors.
Marincin isn't going to spark the pp and Hunt might, if Marty evens out the 5v5 we would still have an anemic pp and we would be discussing how the Oilers have to fix that. |
|
|
|
The fact that we're sitting here and debating whether Brad (frank)ing Hunt will help the PP should be all any of us need to know. |

I don't think it's an issue of personnel on the pp. We have the same guys who were at one point 3rd in the NHL. If it isn't working try a different system. Enough of this 4 forwards crap go to a more traditional 2 dmen high 3 fwds low pp. If the system isn't working rotating players through isn't going to fix that. |

whats with everyone and their hard on for Chipchura???? He's so (frank)ing good thats why he got waived and no one else claimed him
Here is another thought.... yeah the oilers suck we all no that, maybe they recalled Hunt instead of Marincin and play Aulie more than they should because they don't want to rush their prospects and get them stuck in this losing Atmosphere. |

And this only applies to MM who has proven capable of playing in the NHL. What about LD he is a rookie stuck in this sinkhole of a season. Another fine management decision if I do say so myself. |

We don't have the same personnel though. Back then we had Smytty and Horcoff who were net front presence, we don't have any now. We had Whitney to qb the pp and teach Schultz.
We did try to bring in Ramsay to run the pp but it hasn't worked. I do agree we should try something different instead of failing every single time. |

It's just maddening how our power play is a hindrance on our game. Power play is supposed to be the bonus in the game that if you take advantage of increases your odds of winning. 5 on 5 is the actual game and until we figure that out in don't see the pp pulling us out of this losing cycle. |

Taking a player that should be getting NHL minutes and burying him in the AHL so that he isn't infected by the NHL clubs horrendous play? By that logic Hall, Eberle and anyone else good should be on the Barons. Management genius.
I honestly don't understand how anyone can defend anything these guys do. Nobody in this organization, from the suits to the players, has earned any leeway. |

Anyone that believes that management, ownership, coaching or players are OK with losing and trying to lose are just being butthurt and ridiculous. Katz has ripped them internally. Mact has no one giving him any real offers. Eakins has players making junior mistakes. Goalies can't make a save. To say they are tanking on purpose is stupid. I expect that from Cloutier types. - Iggysbff

I don't bother reading it. The title inspired a wet fart and if I read it I will probably need to drop a BigErn4MVP....and I don't have time for that right now. |

leon draisaitl should have been sent back to Junior
I hate some of the Decisions that management has made. I just hope they end up with McJesus and Trade Yak, Perron, 2016 1st rounder to upgrade the blue line |

I would love to see another teams scouting report of how to beat the Oilers. I imagine it to be something like this.
Offense: Dump the puck in with 2 forward applying pressure on the forecheck. Third forward skate toward front of net/slot area and wait for pass while being left undefended.
Defense. Four guys stand at blue line and promptly wait for Oilers player to turn puck over trying to stick handle through.
Powerplay. Have power play will score.
Penalty Kill. Let the Oilers pass the puck around the perimeter as we cover the shooting lanes in the middle of the ice. When the puck is at the point apply pressure and wait to pick off the pass across leading to a shorthanded break. |

Tannehill has been excellent, the receivers missed a couple of TD's. |

I think it would be more like this:
Offence: Wait for the defence to (frank) up. Then score.
Defence: Wait for the offence to (frank) up. Then score.
Powerplay: Kill some time. Then score.
Penalty Kill: Bonus powerplay. Score.
