To be honest, Sanheim looks the most ready of any of them.

Seriously though, does it not bother any of you to have Luke Schenn and Nicolas Grossmann on the ice as a PK D pair? It's gone on for most of the season, I like both guys but their lack of mobility and lack of puck skill is glaring. It's an adjustment that needs to be made yesterday.
- SuperSchennBros

Yes, especially when the get scored upon because neither guy picked up the open forward sitting on the front porch, like Havlat's goal on Thursday night. Somehow the finesse winger got into position behind the Flyer pair of good, stay at home defensive defensemen and had easy access to redirect the puck past Emery.

I really liked Niskanen and Stralman. Stralman has turned into one of the best value signings.

I thought Niskanen would be a nice addition because he's RH and I thought he would blend well with Coburn on the top pair. He hasn't been that great this year, but he hasn't been horrible either. He's definitely better than Amac.

- PhillySportsGuy

I think Niskanen is certainly better, have to give some adjustment time for a free agent sometimes. I think that Stralman and MacDonald are pretty comparable as players. He came in a little bit cheaper at 4.5M, which is what I was hoping they'd get MacDonald for. But I'm okay with the slight overpayment.

I would, too. Easier that way, instead of looking in the mirror.

I wouldn't have been happy with that deal for Niskanen, either. Although I feel he's better than AMac.

But that's the thing, now they have $30mm and six years tied into MacDonald, who has struggled. Give me the struggling guy making $1.3mm on a one year deal.

- Jsaquella

Yeah. Watching Amac and Schutlz, it's amazing that one of those guys got $30M and the other got $1.25M.

Flyers should think about bringing him up for a look-see.

And No, I just found the game as the 2nd was ending.

I don't know how much weight he's put on. My thoughts are based on watching him play and what I read. I know respectable hockey writers think very highly of him. He's the one I'm most excited about.

The opposition is on a PP, which means the coverage is not man to man obviously as it is 5 on 4. NHL PP's try and work mini 2 on 1's which is what happened there. The Flyers defenseman on that play actually weren't positioned badly. Grossmann had to go out and challenge the shooter, because of the rotation that the Devils ran to isolate the Flyers defenseman down low. Severson skated the puck to the middle drawing Couturier over, which forced Grossmann to have to go out to challenge Gomez, which left Schenn having to play between Jagr and Havlat. It was actually good execution by NJ to get the mismatch down low, and a lucky tip. There was no real breakdown on that coverage, rather it was NJ taking advantage of having an extra man.

MacDonald is a much better all around player then Schultz is. Schultz is certainly a good value for a veteran 3rd pair defenseman.

Go for the ultimate in quad-tasking and turn on the leafs/wings.

They use him on the PK, which I find a bit strange. He created a breakaway off of it though and nearly scored an incredible goal.

Devils have not one, but two forwards down low by the time the goal is scored, between Emery and the nearest Flyers defenseman.

If that's not a breakdown, then the strategy is seriously flawed, because that was a really easy goal for NJ to score

Maybe trying to work on his defensive skills by throwing him in the pk fire?
