Why can't the Flyers just go out and get 1) one more good D man and 2) a good goalie. Surely all those 3rd/4th pairing defensemen add up to some sort of trade value?

I swear they'd be in the Finals every season...their firepower is ridiculous.

thank the LORD BABY JESUS I drafted Voracek in both my pools; guy is a monster.

That is incorrect. The salary cap for this season is 69M. The Flyers projected cap spending for this season is $75,063,516. Take away Pronger's cap hit of $4,941,429, that leaves the Flyers still over the upper limit. Where does the good chunk of extra change come from? And if they're lucky to move Umberger and Lecavalier, it's likely due to a buyout or taking salary back, or retaining salary in a trade.
- MJL

Did you take into account Kimmo's and White's injuries as well? We had 3 players on LTIR before the season even started. Those Injuries are the only reason Delzotto and Vandevelde are on the team. If none of those injuries occur, yoy lose 1.9 mill for those 2 players. Coliacovo was a quarter season pickup so his .625 doesn't count. That is 2.5 mill on top of the 5 mill from Pronger. That gave us approx. 1.5 mill in cap space. After Kimmo left that jumps to 3.5. Obviously the Pronger situation is a lot more complicated because if Pronger wasn't injured, this defence would have been a lot different. I do not believe AMac, Streit or Schenn would have been on this team if Pronger never got hurt. Those guys were Homer's attempt the put a bandaid on the giant hole he left behind.

that they do. mason's good days can absolutely win games for his team. and even when he isnt hot, he really isnt a liability.

the position is settled for the flyers, and in a positive way.

Totally okay with this. Go back to the WHL playing big minutes and ripping that league instead of being a 3rd pairing guy this year in the tourny. He's still got another shot next year.

Wasn't totally unexpected. Morin was always more likely because there's several guys with similar attributes to Sanheim who are a bit older and more experienced. But there's only one 6'7" maniac from the Q in camp

A bit more surprised Bigras was cut. He was on team last year

I took into account everything. Your comment that if it wasn't for Pronger they'd have a nice chunk of change, simply isn't true. Of course things would be different if Pronger wasn't injured, but we're dealing in what actually happened. When did Timonen leave?
The Flyers projected cap spending is over 6M more then the upper limit of 69M. I gave you the number. That's more then just Vandevelde and Del Zotto, who together add up to less the 2M.
And based on what you write above, your not understanding how LTIR works.
For example, if Timonen didn't get the blood clots, he wouldn't be on LTIR, the exemption would disappear. Timonen counts for 2M against the Cap using the bonus cushion. Remove Del Zotto and Colaiacovo, who add up to 1.925M as if they they weren't signed. There is no savings there. The Flyers used LTIR exemption to bring those players on.

What are Fazleev's chances of making the Russian squad this year? I know he got looked over in the Canada/Russia series a while back, so is that a hint he's not making it to their WJC squad this year?

Okay, it would be awesome if he made it especially as an 18 year old.

Guess im rooting for the US, Sweden and Canadia if Morin makes it.

Not a shock, more of his style in that camp. But good experience for him.

It's really a tournament for 19-year-olds, anyway -- I know you know that, but not making it as an 18-year-old isn't a crime. That's a damn tough tournament

Kind of lame, but Canada selection committee isn't exactly lighting it up either in recent years.

Excited for this tournament!
