Can they send CC down to play for the Phantoms while Hagg is out?
- Feanor

They sure can. He'd have to clear waivers first.

Exactly my feelings. If they finish bottom 5, then the young core has some big issues and the rebuild is going to have to be extensive.

I thought about it all day and here is where I'm at: I disagree.

This team is better with McDavid or Eichel on it, plus trading every older player possible at the TDL and marking it up to a bad season. Compared to Not shedding anyone at the TDL and missing the POs by a hair. So while I'm not ever going to route for them to lose, I would choose last over just missing the POs. I just disagree with you and Just5.

Oh, I'd rather have a shot at McEichel, too than just missing the playoffs. The trouble is, if they do finish so poorly that they're legitimately a bottom 2 team, they need a lot more to do than just fix the defense.

EDIT: Now if they're bottom two because they start selling at the TDL, that's a different song altogether

I hear you but maybe Mason goes down or G or Vcheck.
Would it be too much to hope for an injury?!

Sorry just kidding
*throws salt over shoulder and spins three times.

Seriously though, we were just bottom 5, isn't the writing kinda on the wall? I'm not suggesting McDavid would catapult us to a cup next season, but 2-3 season from now? When we have actual D fense that we groomed ourselves? Maybe. The cup has to be the end goal. Mediocre hell is not going to bring it- 30 years and counting

I'd have them compete as hard as they can with the current team. And what I mean is no adding veterans for draft picks to make a push. It won't put this team over the hump.

But even if they are a bubble playoff team at the TDL, I'd still want to see them look towards the future, 3-5 year team. I would look to trade up to 2 defenseman from the current squad for picks at the TDL even if they are in a fight for the last spot. Which ones to trade, that is the interesting part.

For forwards I am not really in favor of moving anyone except the anchors and 4th liners.

G, Jake, Couts, BSchenn, Simmonds, Laughts go nowhere.
I'd even prefer to keep Read, Raffle, Bellemare unless the return is too good to pass up.

The rest of the forward group isn't worth much but I'd trade for picks any of them.

the only caveat to the above is if by some chance a top two defenseman becomes available via trade, then maybe they move something out of the core to make that deal.

but it seems really really unlikely for this to happen.

Even if a top two defenseman is available, there's conditions. It's got to be a young guy, who can be a cornerstone now and 5 years from now.

Forsberg has been that team's savior, not Seth Jones.
