I think everyone was saying that back then. Bieksa was coming off of a major injury, he regained forum as a solid top 4-dman after that. But now he's just old and declining. The same guys who keep ripping Burrows and the Sedins need to be demanding a Bieksa trade as well, even though he's a good ole' hard-nosed Canadian boy.

Bieksa is more of a 4/5 guy these days. Hamhuis/Tanev/Edler are still top 4 d-men.

Booner has been saying for years about Bieksa not just last year, and lots of posters agreed

I think he's played well enough to get the chance, not every top six forward in the NHL was an all-star. Kids need to be given a chance to succeed and learn when they've shown to be your best prospect...time for Benning to get on board with this - which I think he will before the year is out.

I guess...it's just that everytime I see a young guy making waves in the NHL I look at his AHL numbers and they're usually producing at or near a PPG level in that league. Unless it's a true two-way player or a more gritty type. I don't think Jensen fits that mold.

Well in year's past Bieksa was a legit top 4 d-man.....

I don't think Benning or any other GM will use that approach. He'll have to convince them that he doesn't think they'll be happy with their roles/ice time on this team moving forward so now there's chance to go to a better team and maybe get a cup.

You make them healthy scratches and any self respecting pro will do one of two things.

1 Improve or
2 Request a trade

Even Sestitio wants to be moved so he can play

Other GM's aren't stupid. They'll see that as a sign of desperation and once the player demands a trade then you really lose bargaining power. But hey, if you want to trade Higgins, Bieksa and Burrows for a combined package(obviously separate trades) of a Jensen/Gaunce type prospect, and two 3rd's then that's the way to get it done.

If you're talking about his jersey number, then I agree......

You think Bieksa is still a #3 and he and Edler are the same caliber right now?

Small sample size, and he's a true two-way player. And I don't think he's really making a big splash in the NHL, he's just not looked out of place.

You can't just look at his numbers, although 8 goals 14 points in 18 games is not bad at all, he's a shooter, plain and simple. He's also big and fast, he needs the opportunity to play at this level.

What a waste to have him, and Corrado, sit like that for so many games, kids need to play.

They go back and forth. Edler sucked for two years and has now played Decent for two months . Small sample size.

Put Bieksa with Tanev ( both RHD) and put Sbisa with Edler see how they look then

Give the kid some PP time. He likely has the best shot on the team.

I agree, that's a solid pace but I'd want to see him sustain it for half a season at least before I give him a legit shot(not just random call-ups).

Edler is 28, Bieksa's 33 so even if you think they're equal, there's no way you can vaue them the same.

I agree that playing with Weber/Sbisa instead of Tanev is a huge difference but Edler-Tanev have held their own against some of the most dangerous offensive lines in the league. And Bieksa should be making Weber/Sbisa look better if he's truly a solid #3 guy, I don't see that right now. I'd trade Bieksa for another Edler easily right now and I bet you get better play from those pairings.

I would think they make a trade late in the season and call him up much like they did last year, I think he's more ready now to compete for a spot.

What do you guys want? A rental or to move a vet for a prospect? Because there's no way in hell you're gonna get both an upgrade for this year and get the younger player in the same trade. At the TDL it's usually one or the other, either you get a prospect(usually a project type like we have in Jensen/Gaunce) or a draft pick for a vet you trade away. Or you trade a prospect or pick like that and acquire a vet, usually an older guy with an expiring deal.
- Nucker101

We want the needs addressed but understand it is difficult if impossible without impacting another area.

That is why I said, "We are in a tight spot unless we trade a bottom 9 player that brings us back a streaky unproven scorer.. or pick up a project off the wire. "

Do I want to see him acquire a proven scorer for the top 6? Yeah. But unless Benning is able to pull the fleece over another GM's eyes, I don't see us picking up a player that is ready and able to immediately contribute and have an impact.

Whether we are still in the playoff picture or not, I hope Benning isn't afraid to trade some players at the tdl that aren't in his future plans but understand management and ownership want us in the playoffs.

Do we want another first round exit this year? I would rather not making the playoffs and going further next season but it is likely it will be more than a season before we are built up to go further.

Looking forward to see what Benning actually does...
