Bieksa's value may plumet by then - VANTEL
Doubt it, he's built himself a reputation around the league as a tough guy that can play top 4 minutes, it usually takes more than a full calender year of suckage before everyone catches on.
I remember when Tim Gleason was a pending UFA heading towards the 2012 deadline. He had that same reputation for being a guy who can play top 4 minutes and drop the gloves when needed as well. Plenty of teams wanted him and the asking price was sky high, CAR ended up re-signing him instead of even trading him(I remember the asking price was something ridiculous like a 1st + decent prospect).
Bieksa isn't even a pending UFA. The only thing thing that could hurt his value is that he controls where he gets traded so there won't be a 10 team bidding war. And that's assuming he's even willing to waive at all. |

We are in a tight spot unless we trade a bottom 9 player that brings us back a streaky unproven scorer.. or pick up a project off the wire.
Needs: top 6 scoring, defense - stability (lacking without Hamhuis) and pmd.
Really need to trade Burr if he isn't scoring. Fecker has to at least hit the net when he gets a shot and get a lucky bounce or offensive zone face off...
Really want to see Benning make a trade to bring it, but not sure if we can afford the price... - hillbillydeluxe
What do you guys want? A rental or to move a vet for a prospect? Because there's no way in hell you're gonna get both an upgrade for this year and get the younger player in the same trade. At the TDL it's usually one or the other, either you get a prospect(usually a project type like we have in Jensen/Gaunce) or a draft pick for a vet you trade away. Or you trade a prospect or pick like that and acquire a vet, usually an older guy with an expiring deal. |

At the TDL trade vets for picks & prospects. Lefty is spot on with his analysis, draft, develop, draft, develop then play. Five or 6 years. The Presidents Trophy dynasty begins! |

I agree, but I'm just not sure if management will do the same if this team is still in a playoff spot by the TDL.
I'd start with Bieksa personally, unlike Higgins and Burrows, he'd be highly sought after. Benning needs to convince him though. Higgins and Burrows aren't going to start any bidding wars, they'll be a "plan C" or something for a team that gets outbid by another contender for a top 6 forward. And Higgins has a limited NTC, while Burrows also has a full NTC so Bening's bargaining power in trades will be limited even if they're willing to waive their clauses. |

Those three mentioned contracts were not Benning contracts so ,if I was him I would apologize and ask for 6 clubs that player would accept a trade to. If they refuse hand them their bus ticket on Greyhound heading to Utica |

Shinakruk's might be a lesson, apparently he took a bad/undisciplined penalty the game before in a close game that hurt the team. Gaunce, I was a bit surprised by. Green has the team playing well, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. |

Agreed. We just wanted to overlook it because he's one of the few on the team that will drop the gloves and get pissed. It's time to move him, you can find a much cheaper d-man if you're okay with a bottom pairing calbier d-man with some toughness. |

I don't know if he's played well enough in the AHL to earn a full-time spot yet. He still has "meh" games too often in the AHL to be a full-time NHL'er.
I'm open to trading any of the older vets though if the return is decent. |

If it does then look out. It will be a decade or more until we can attract UFA's. |

We have known for years that we have a #2 D and had 3x #3/4 D men with Edler Bieksa and Garrison. This is not news.
I remember a few saying Sit Lu Trade Bieksa Fire AV back in 2009 |

I think he's played well enough to get the chance, not every top six forward in the NHL was an all-star. Kids need to be given a chance to succeed and learn when they've shown to be your best prospect...time for Benning to get on board with this - which I think he will before the year is out. |

They are not his signings. the fact that they have 2 years left he probably wont but he should |

I think everyone was saying that back then. Bieksa was coming off of a major injury, he regained forum as a solid top 4-dman after that. But now he's just old and declining. The same guys who keep ripping Burrows and the Sedins need to be demanding a Bieksa trade as well, even though he's a good ole' hard-nosed Canadian boy.
Bieksa is more of a 4/5 guy these days. Hamhuis/Tanev/Edler are still top 4 d-men. |

I don't think Benning or any other GM will use that approach. He'll have to convince them that he doesn't think they'll be happy with their roles/ice time on this team moving forward so now there's chance to go to a better team and maybe get a cup. |
