Mats Naslund was my favorite non-Penguin. Mike Modano a close second. I actually owned a Minnesota North Stars jersey at one point.

I wanted him after watching he and Mario in the all star game when Mario had 6 or 7 points. I know there was no hitting or defense but they were magic together.

I absolutely HATED art class in elementary school (my wife is an art teacher, funny how that works out), so in order to make it fun for myself I'd draw/paint only sports people. It was to the point that one year the teacher tried to make me do a still life with flowers and wine bottles and other crap, and instead I brought in a baseball glove, a beer bottle, a hot dog, and some Pirates tickets and drew that.

I really liked to draw hockey players because their concealed faces (goalies were the best) hid my lack of artistic talent. I still have the drawing I did of Naslund back then somewhere, it was the highest graded thing I ever did in art.

He was a slick little player who played hard.

I had to look for it...

I love old hockey vids, look how small Vernon looks/is compared to Lemieux on the OT goal.

Sweet, thanks for finding that. Sick setup from Naslund on the OT winner.

And even with the big hair, Nathalie was smoking hot.

Honestly if you don't see a Mario clip for a while you forget how monstrous and smooth he actually was. I really miss getting the privilege of watching him play. Even though we have Sid and he is otherworldly and Geno, Mario was still on a different planet. Imagine having to defend him, I don't blame the clutch and grab era one bit; there would be no other way to defend him.

Did you notice who turned the puck over prior to the OT goal?

No wonder they scored so many goals back then. Goalie pads were very thin.

My favorite non penguin? Probably ROENICK.

I wish he had played for us on his prime. AMONTE was good too.

DEADMARSH...I liked his style.

Even then, Mario before his back problems was a different player than he was after like '91. The late 80's Mario was just soooooo slick. A little shift with his hips and he was by you. He lost that move with the back issues.

For a guy that big to be that fluid, with that reach, was something never seen before or since. Malkin is probably about as closest you can get.

Loses the puck then sets up shop in "his office" while they skate the other way and win the game. His lack of effort can be excused in an all star game though.

Over an hour long, but anyone too young to have seen him play, or anyone old enough that wants to remember some great times, should watch this.

Oshie is overrated. He once scored like 22g? I like him though. He could hit 30 with Malkin, doesnt he have a bit of a physical game? With other guys stepping up in STL he might be expendable. Trade targets: Boedker, Oshie, Berglund, Perron, Tlusty.

legit questions for the last regime inlcude: why the bottom six. why?
why scuds contract when so many young d in the organization? why?
douglas murray? why?
why not use iggy where he should have been used? why?

questions that dont make sense

questions about kunitz/dupes contracts... good damn contracts
questions about drafting d-men, good damn strategy if the current admin would parlay these assets into needs.
questions about iginla trade... foolish not to have made that trade
letangs contract... no questions needed.

I don't think we were heavily against Douglas Murray the player... just the cost it took to get him.

Scuds, yep nothing else to say on it... Kunitz I think is still fine for another year... the final year I think it will be iffy.

Since everyone is putting it out there, my favorite non Penguin was the Russian Rocket. He was just so much fun to watch.

Do we have any legitimate bangers in the pipeline who could be a legitimate bottom pairing defenseman in the near future? Ruopp, McNeill, Segalla, etc? Are they too far away from the NHL? Not good enough to be full time NHLers?

Just curious, dont know much about them.

yeah.. dupers too but that was the cost to keep them and it was worth it. with the cap going up and kap and (crossed self) BB playing top 6 in elc's, having duper and kunitz finish thir last year as third liners would make for damn good depth.

Man I watched 10 minutes of this and first it took me back to my childhood then it reminded me I got to see the greatest player imo live for a very long time. Man I never seen anyone just undress people on breakaways. Hextall didn't even get pissed he just shook his head ha ha

I think the Dupes/Kunitz contracts are ok, but the lenght is an issue. Till they both are 38 and 39

What's wrong with the Legang contract?

Drafting nothing but Dmen and signing Scuds is what got the Pens crap for top and bottom 6 forwards and 5 years of crappy playoff teams.

nothing wrong with tangers contract... that was in the good section

without that last year kunitz and dupes walk.. price of doing business and its worth it. drafting d-men has the pens loaded in the best position possible. they are still among the top teams without having to tap that depth yet. thats amazing. they have so many options with players like harrington/BD, poiliot, despres its a situation to die for. GMJR just needs to wait for the right deal. 5 years of crappy playoff teams has nothing to do with it. injuries top top stars, bomb performances by stars, poor luck... thats what killed us.
