Honest question, what would you think a return would be for trading Letang?? - cap1681
Either one elite winger or a package deal. I'd guess like Taylor Hall straight up. Nyquist and Jurco. Tatar, Jurco, and 1st. ROR and a 1st. Yakupov, Perron, 2nd. Palmieri, Cogliano, N. Ritchie.
Just taking wild guesses here, as all trades depend on Salary/team needs/surpluses, etc....so don't take these too seriously, but I think it would a deal similar to that. |

The formula I'm using for winning is that you need a #1 C, a #1 D, and a #1 G to have a shot at winning the Stanley Cup under current conditions. It's not a strange occurrence that LA, Chicago, and Boston have had the majority of the success in the last five seasons while the St. Louis Blues, Washington Capitals, and Pittsburgh Penguins of the NHL have been continually defeated by other incomplete teams during that time. - Johnny Wrath
I don't know that I would qualify Corey Crawford as a "#1" goalie as you are laying out those qualifications. He's perfectly fine, but he's not Rask or Quick. |

Yes, Myers is a #1. If he wasn't on a horrible team, he would probably be considered a top tier #1. Also why you see teams trying to trade for him. - cap1681
Myers is a bad defenseman. I don't see any team trying to acquire that contract. |

I have been down on Letang as much as anyone over the years, but IMHO, he's having his finest season as a Pen this year. |

Chicago had above average goaltending for both their Cup wins. How do you classify a #1 goaltender??? |

Saying bergeron is better than zetterberg is like saying youd rather bang selena gomez over arianna grande. They're both great choices and neither one is clear-cut better. |

where's Buffalo at with the cap? They might need to retain a chunk of his salary just to stay above the floor. or does the floor disappear once the season begins? - ScienceJesus
If thats the case, Scuderi for Stewart is the only deal I would do. I don't see anything I like about the guy, just things that we wish he could become. But of course, Scuds definitely wont waive to go to Buffalo...so back to no, pass on Stewart. |

Well, the baseline would be winning more playoff rounds since 2009 than the backup goalie. |

I think the year when Tanger was up for the Norris was better. Would have won IMO if he'd stayed healthy. Yes he's having a very good year, but his durability will always be in question.
I think the new system has helped him significantly. |

I don't understand the appeal of Selena Gomez.
Righty center with great 2-way play is slightly more valuable than lefty C/LW with great 2-way play but only slightly.

I think the new system has helped most of the d-men & goalies significantly. Forwards coming back to actually help in the d-zone, not leaving a continent worth of ice between themselves & the d-men making a breakout pass, and not leaving Flower hung out to dry while waiting above the circles for a breakout pass when the whole opposition team is between them & their own net, essentially leaving a 4 or 5-on-2 in the defensive zone half the time. |

I say we wait a bit and try to get healthier and keep d prospects til last minute or til next season. If we trade anything it should be older guys like Martin, Scuderi,Erhoff, ect. I really think we will be solid on defense if we hold on our defensive prospects and play them. We shoulda traded/bought out either or both,Martin and Scuderi at last seasons end last year and resigned 44,Vitale and Glass. It'd open up some room for these younger guys. I think injuries have killed us for last 4 years. trade value on guys now is absurd and to move top def prospects to get more old rental guy isn't the answer. Maybe picks id do but not 2-3 year developed players
Id like to see: (next season) this year I'd hold unless the perfect guy is there and it doesn't take the farm.
Kunitz or trade Crosby Hornquivst
Bennett(healty) Malkin Kunitz or trade
Spaling Sutter Comeau/Bennett
Adams Goc Sill
Letang Mattaa
Bortuzzo Despres
Martin Dumoulin
Pouliot
I think Adams its about done

Pittsburgh has 2 #1 Centers indeed.
Pittsburgh has three #2 defenders, three #3s, two #4s, and a #5.
Fleury is an NHL starting quality goaltender. Fleury is also part of the shaky, up-on-two-wheels spirit of Penguins playoff hockey. He is much more capable of blowing a game than he is stealing a game. I doubt anyone has ever thought that the Penguins would win at least one game in a playoff series because Fleury would steal a game. Fleury, in short, is not trustworthy. |

Nope. I would have taken 3 years at 5.3 for Doan (then 36) over 6 years of James Neal at 5. Arizona would have to compensate for the disparity of years, but that's not impossible. |

At the very least this statement supports a point I like to make about Pittsburgh: the core of the Penguins can win with a different goalie. Whether they stand a better chance with Fleury considering what the last half-decade has looked like is a different point of consideration. |

Not a chance. Maybe if they threw in boedeker and retained all of doans contract plus took scuderi off our hands |
