Now way in hell can Hansen or Burrows be whipping boys so far this year, both ave played their asses off and produced so far. Matthias has been solid after a horrible start.
Vey has been up and down, but he's a rookie so it's not shocking. He's played OK for a rookie getting limited minutes.
Kassian and Scooby's boy Sestito are probably it. - Nucker101
That is the funny part, isn't it? We see changes need to be made... We aren't as big as our competition. Do we try to address some outstanding needs? Is Jensen and/or Virtanen projected to be in the lineup next season?
Benning has some decisions to make along the way. Who from the old regime fits on this team in transition?
Loving it.

Then you become last years Calgary Flames. You just can't hang on to everyone until they are too old to skate. - VANTEL
That's not what I said. I didn't say I want to keep Burrows until the end of his deal. I just said that a whipping boy is usually a guy who sucks and isn't playing up to his contract at the current time. Wanting to trade a guy who's expected to decline in the future and a whipping boy are two different things. That's all I was saying. |

Benning should be targeting GM's who are desperate and try to take advantage of them. That's the great team about being a GM of a team that's exceeding expectations, it gives you trade leverage over the GM's of under-performing teams. - Nucker101
Just have to dangle right carrot. I'm not as concerned about Benning's ability to bring the right people back as I was with Gillis.

Or an expiring contract (Matthias for example ++). However he has the size this team needs. I'm OK with Burrows++

If just one of those 3 make it as an NHL regular I'll call it a win. Bo and Virtanen are definitely big/heavy guys, especially for how young they are.
I like em big and young. - Nucker101

I think you and Vantel are confusing the concept of whipping boy and trade bait.
Ie. Torts has been and continues to be a whipping boy around here, but it is impossible to trade him because A. he was fired already and B. you can't trade a coach
Oxford's English Dictionary defines whipping boy as such: an individual who attracts negative commentary and harsh criticism over some aspect of their bearing |

Who is the new whipping boy? Vey? (his value up or down?)
Matthias has looked great on the pk and rushes. I wished he played as big as he is, thought he got pushed around by the big CBJ defenders in the corners...
Hansen? Sestito? Burrows?
Tough call to make. I like the idea of improving even while winning. I guess it really depends on the player that would coming our way. - hillbillydeluxe
Pretty sure it's still Kassian.

You are the one calling Burrows the WB . As I said a few blogs ago, I like him but this year is time to go.

I don't see any reason for the Canucks not to make the playoffs outside of the possibility of dealing with more injuries than we can handle. Last thing I want to see is trades involving more picks and young players being moved for vets to secure a playoff spot though. Stay the course... Corrado, Jensen, Markstrom all there if we need them. |

There is nothing wrong with trying to improve. The Hawks who have an excellent team spent most of last year trying to trade for a centre on HB. It's just fun to discuss. This team is off to an excellent start, but it is still fun to discuss possiblities.

The team needs to get bigger somehow without disrupting the line-up too much. Benning has been thinking that way with his picks and recent moves, but with the grind of a playoff series they need some big bodies in there sooner than later. Easy to prognosticate, difficult to accomplish. A couple of team’s average weights Anaheim 210.1 RK#1, LA 208.3 RK#2. San Jose 206 RK#9, Van 197.8 RK#27. Any playoff aspirations folks? You need to go through these guys. - VanHockeyGuy
we could sign Penner.... that would probably take us all the way to #1 |
