3 assists for the second line centre last night . How many eons have we waited to say that. - VANTEL
Far far too long. Best part is that when the games get slowed down and our 1st and second lines get shutdown the third and fourth steps in to gear.
Those 1-0/ 2-0 wins are a testament to the depth of this team |

You guys get snow over in Vancouver this morning? We got a bit here and I live down at sea level by the ocean |

Getting rid of Kes and Lu was a huge part of changing the culture of the team, both good players but I'm glad they're gone!! That said, I still think we're missing pieces to compete when it comes playoff time in the West. - LeftCoaster
Another huge difference is the officiating. They are getting rid of the goons and the clutching and grabbing. I find hockey much more enjoyable this year. If they maintain this officiating in the playoffs then I think we have a chance to go a couple of rounds. |

Everyone was scratching their head, looking at the ice time and guessing the Sedins/Kesler were going to falter sooner or later.
Much of the complaining about AV was his inability to adapt on the fly in the playoffs. The team could have been deeper.
Plenty of blame to go around. - hillbillydeluxe

I have agreed that Torts was an ass. Coaches don't score goals or fight in front of the net.Kesler and LU were terrible for this team. They are gone and we see the rewards of having a team that plays well together and sticks up for each other.
I really do like the make up of this team and I do think they are only two players or one away from staying a top contender.
Edler has been called out from the fan base for the last 2.5 yrs. Can't blame that on Torts. Only difference is Torts told Edler to his face he sucked.
Torts era is over and thank God there is a new regime. - VANTEL
That is what I am saying. Was that the right approach? Did it help get the most out of Edler?
WD is in the perfect situation. If anyone wanted a change from AV and they got Torts... like the be careful what you wish for... then WD coming along must be like the messiah to these players.
I think the team still needs more edge and that elusive pmd, but they may surprise if everyone stays healthy. Have to get through the season first. |

Snow in Richmond. My road is mostly clear, didn't really stick there- just lawns and rooftops. |

I like our depth but I'm still not sold on Linden Vey. He's not a good fit on that third line with his lack of size, I much prefer Kassian there. |

In a way it did help Edler. He was a scatterbrain for years and Torts screaming put him in the fetal position in the corner off the dressing room and saying " make the bad man go away".
After all of that he realized he needed to improve greatly to get his respect back.I think he is having his best year in years now. He is playing big and a lot smarter and yes more relaxed.
It did wake him up. I still hate that drop pass he does far too often |

The 2011/12 season, after the Cup run (post Ehrhoff), was by far Edler's best season, he had a tremendous year that year. Even the shortened year he was good! Then Torts totally derailed the poor kid; he looks to be back on track now though, playing with confidence again.
Love his reverse Forsberg hits!! |

I am surprised more players didn't ask to be traded, just Kesler- who should have been Torts' type of player.
It took Torts to tear down Edler and WD to build him back up. When you say Torts helped Edler, you may be right, but if Torts stayed another year then I am guessing Edler would not be bouncing back this year.
I like Vey but he does seem to be out of place in the lineup with Richardson and Matthias. Will Vey ever fill out? He is very hesitant at times along the boards/corners and just wants to get out of that area, especially 5v5. |

Definitely would not have a bounce back year.
Don't get me wrong , I did not like most things about Torts. I think he was a terrible coach. The best thing he did for the franchise was his honesty. He said they sucked and needed a shake up badly ( my translation) .
They say you have to hit rock bottom before you can fix yourself. He did show them where the floor was , for sure.
Let's not lose sight though the reason they even entertained bringing in a coach with his resume was because there was so many existing problems. |

Just looked at the minutes from last night, not one forward under ten minutes, good balance there!!
First line - 1 goal
Second line - 3 goals (one empty net)
Third line - 1 goal
Fourth line - even for the night
I saw a breakdown of the Canucks scoring by line for the season last night - something like 20, 17, 14, 11…which is damn good. |

They should trade with Edmonton, both sides could use a shakeup. Why not?

Torts is not a good coach and his methodology is jurassic. We called that before he came on board and his tactics proved that to be true through the course of last season.
Removing distractions doesn't flip a team from 6th last to first in a matter of months. A superior coach playing a system that the players he has can successfully adopt does. Additionally we do seem to have a more balanced team now. Kesler's attitude didn't clog up that 2nd line as much as his inability to realize he had 2 other linemates on the ice at all times. - AlexF

Were they not in first at Xmas or so, until the Calgary game? - VANTEL
Yes, and it was discussed ad nauseum what a disaster it will turn out to be. |

So, so true. - Marwood
Why is so true?
Changing a distraction that won't pass to teammates ,and a goalie that flops and gives up soft goals is just as much of an excuse .
Again I will point out the drop in standings the previous year when the problems were coming to a head before Torts had arrived.
We wanted to trade Edler for two years , we wanted to trade Kesler for two years ,we wanted to trade LU for two years, we anted to fire AV for two years. I don't see how one blames Torts for that. |

I am not disagreeing that he was horrible but to blame him for everything is not right. |
