Do you think that AV might have something to do with Hodgson's success for the short time he was here? People did talk about 'protected minutes' and hodgson being placed into favourable position so he could excel.

He's got a great shot but he does have some glaring weaknesses. And that $4.25m cap hit is

20g and 24a last season without AV. Kesler lead the Canucks last season with those kind of numbers.

Both of those guys said publicly how they felt. Those were not quiet situations.

As for Hodgson, there were rumours for years that he was discontented. There was very little to say when he got moved because he got what he wanted. It would be like Kesler coming out and bad mouthing the team now. There's no gain in it.

You can speculate that I guess... but thats all.

Strange how no one thinks that Hodgson was just being professional unlike Gillis, Luongo and kesler when it comes to making a trade, being traded or wanting a trade.

My Steelhead season is done til spring. I'm done traveling to Vancouver Island from here in the winter for fishing a long time ago. Fall and spring I can catch much bigger Steelhead closer to home in the north.

Good luck though. I want to see some pics too...

Ice fishing season starts in the next few weeks. Was thinking of Tarpon in Costa Rica.... the place I was interested in hasnt impressed me with their communication so I think Ill wait another season to research and plan properly. The big Tarpon winter in the rivers around eastern Costa Rica... instead of the baby resident Tarpon of Mexico etc... you should do a trip like that one day.

Anyone notice goat like Ryan Kesler beat up 5 foot 9 inch, 148 pound Kris Russell last night?
- Grumpy13

They have him listed at 173 on TSN, but yeah, seems a mismatch.

Surprised Kesler would want to tangle with that?

I went fishing for bonefish (?) in the Cook Islands once. Not as exciting as tarpon I'm sure but it was nice standing on the flats and having schools of these (frank)ers zoom around us. They seem like they are constantly hunting.

Good fight too.

Does Anybody understand the AHL system. Sportsnet was talking about this Boston Bruins kid named Pasternak.

The kid is lighting up the AHL but he is only 18 as he was selected in this past draft.

I thought you had to be 20 to play in the AHL unless it was a conditioning stint.

Plus it looks like Canucks missed out on this kid at 26th overall.

SJ has to do something... right? 2-0 loss to the Flames and they only allowed 19 shots against! I was thinking its Todd McLellan but the system seems just fine but something's up with the players. Something's not right.

I think it has something to do with European eligibility. If you've played a certain amount of pro games there you are allowed to play in the AHL.

Yup played for Sodertalje SK (Sweden 1st Division). He's a pro.

NO, everything is just fine, stop sticking your nose into their business. Their team is fine and will make the playoffs no problem. Now just let them cheer and hope everything turns out great.

Damn....... Looks like a good pick with his progress in the AHL.

Not down on Jared McCan but this Pasternak kid looks really good.

If a GM wants to get a drafted player into the system as soon as possible, I would rather go the route of drafting a young european pro than drafting an over-aged junior.

Thats great...good for you... I love hearing about our HB posters fishing.

I did Bonefish in Mexico.... it blows my mind how much a 3lb pound fish can light up a real I use for 20 pound Steelhead in BC.

Tarpon get huge... up to 300 pounds and they spend a lot of time launching out of the water.

Thank god someone agrees with me. Thought I might be overreacting. Don't hear much talk about them. Went to Sharks thread and asked a non-troll question and didn't get a response.

Yeah, I have very little experience with big time fishing. I grew up in Halifax and we'd fish off the docks when the mackerel ran. We caught them with these lead jigs (on rod and reel). So simple but we caught hundreds. They had a good fight too.

But that ended as I got distracted (older) and the only time I've fished since are during holidays to warm places. Shame really. Fishing's a good time.
