Yeah I'm in the same boat. When you share it with people, they start lecturing you on what they'd do to fix the oilers.

My GF is a leafs fan, so no shortage of misery among the other teams I watch.

- Morris

Yeah, I lived in Edmonton for the 05-06 season finding a job after college. But after that year I decided to move back to NS, but still remained an Edmonton fan. A run like that imprints on you.

When you're getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars you don't earn that by 'trying'. You get paid that much for 'doing'.

Holy (frank), you must be a fan of the participation award in sports.

The funny part is some of you tarts think you know what kinds of deals are being discussed and you somehow know what he has turned down, for all you know the best deal hes been offered is luke schenn for yak eberle and gretzkys old jock. Edmonton is on just about every players NTC list, the players edmonton need are few and far between. The ones that do exist cant be traded for because we simply do not have what it would take to pry them away from their teams. We have no choice but to draft our stars and overpay the support cast to convince them to play here.. Its not a reality for all teams in the league but unfortunately it is for edmonton

Here's two tweets from around that time:

Names I remember being speculated as a "good young player" included Marincin and Klefbom, Gagner and Petry, and Omark. Paajarvi was traded 10 days later, so he was likely in the discussion.

Also heard they wanted two 2nds.

- Morris

So for argument sake, lets say it was a 1st, 2nd, and a player.

So Gagner, Paajarvi, and Omark are all gone now. Petry is a marginal player. Klefbom is a promising prospect.

Do you really think it's that much? What does the oil need with that 1st and 2nd? The oil don't need more high draft picks.

I think MacT missed big time on that one.

I sure hope we acquire Sidney Crosby so that this much needed firing can be retroactively legitimized.

I wouldn't care for the optics of anything less than that.

- Morris

I'd say Perron should fetch us Crosby... Easily.

Excuses, excuses... Calgary isn't far from Edmonton and suffers the same no trade clause issues. Somehow they've managed to acquire players throughout the years. The problem is Lowe and MacT are running around with their big egos from what they accomplished in the 80's that nobody wants to deal with them. They have no interested in trading any of the 1st overall duds and with their overinflated egos, they've probably been telling every team to eff off for the 4 years.
It's not the city of Edmonton that is scaring quality players from joining your team. It's the morons that are running it and losing mentality they've made acceptable.

Why do you think it's that way? Because it's cold? Nothing to do but to hang out in a big mall? ESPN not available on local cable?

There is nothing wrong with Edmonton as a city. That's a horse poop excuse.

Maybe players don't want to sign there because the organization is run by a bunch of tards. It's a second tier franchise that's lost any credibility it once had from those glory days.

The oil have had loads of draft picks to give up without losing their core. Start spending those picks and get yourself some talent and fix this situation.

Nurse is our best D prospect and Petry is our best dman. Nurse figures incredibly heavily into our future. If the organization has any sense, Petry should too.

I don't think we'd be any better off. Or, we'd be superficially better off 26th instead of 30th or something.

It's that way mostly because the team loses a lot. There are other organizations run by tards who didn't have (as much) trouble attracting free agents.

When we get better, we'll get more attractive as an FA destination.

Just tired of some Oilers fans "not trading Yakupov for anything less than a Shea Weber" attitude.

actually there are tax advantages in AB...the problem is with management and how the whole organization is run

They taught their entire core that its okay to lose, in fact I would go as far as to say it was encouraged that they worry about putting up points and not much else

now they wonder why they don't know how to grind out a win

How does one guy have more ability than another to trade a player?
Some people are dumber, I suppose , but this can't come down to ability or willingness, it has as much to do with the other 29 GM's.
If they don't want to give you a top pair DMan or Center for Perron you're not going to convince them.

C'mon man, be better at this.

Do what you will with this team MacT but don't trade the only guy to show emotion on an off the ice in quite sometime. Truth hurts... at least he had the balls to say something then just except this crap. I Will find a new team if he trades him I think.

Oilers are a huge mess and the season is basically over so might as well join the McDavid sweepstakes because that kid is supposed to be the best thing to come up since Crosby.

Stumble along until February and then hang the For Sale sign on any or all of Hall, Eberle, RNH and Yak for the highest bidders to climb over themselves with offers. The Oilers could pull plenty with those guys out there - some seasoned defenceman, good kids playing in the minors, draft picks. And then the following year go after a guy like Brent Seabrook with a massive free agent offer to be their captain and show the kids something about winning.

- RickJ

If the Oliers are giving up on the season then waiting until the deadline is probably a smarter move if they are going to sell everyone except Hall and RNH. At least they did not give Schultz one of those 7 yr 42M deals.
