Good for him if he's improved; I remember him seeing him in Columbus and he was pretty weak.

He was good in Columbus. He wasn't trying to do too much.

He's got high hockey IQ which allows him to have good positioning, gap control, anticipation, and angling in the defensive zone. And most of all, he gives 100% effort on the defensive side of the puck. Whether it's sprinting to backcheck or doing a fully-extended dive to poke the puck out of the zone he's been great this year. Team Canada selected him mainly to be a PKer.

Some players have no issues playing either wing, others just can't adjust. There is a special skill to play one side or the other, if you're a left handed left wing you can pass using your forehand. If you get switched to the right wing, you need to use your backhand. Much, much harder. But hockey is so fluid that players are constantly cycling.

The skill set for being a winger is the same though, regardless of side. True, a lot of guys have trouble switching sides, but the things you have to do well on the right side also have to be done well on the left side. Personally, I think wingers should be compared to wingers regardless of their side. It's the same position.

Maybe a rebuild?

But man it seems like you guys have been in rebuild mode forever....how many top picks can you get and still suck?

It's similar to how left-handed defensemen and right-handed defensemen are most comfortable on the left and right sides, respectively. But I do agree that like defensemen, a top wingers list should be aggregated.

Hall is like Kessel.

Unreal at putting up pts, and offensively top 10.... but does that alone win you games when they matter? I still question his character as a leader.

I believe Eberle has the heart and determination to lead this team with Hall taking over the offensive load, but don't kid yourself... Hall is far away from being elite with the exception of pts alone. BUT if the argument is by player comparision vs Hall... Tatar/Nyquist are not even close, but both are champions at a pro level (AHL) and that proved worthy last year when half of the Griffins got the Wings into the playoffs.

that is EXACTLY what Hall is missing.

- BooBoo997

I think Kessel is better than Hall defensively right now. Most people who don't watch the Leafs regularly wouldn't believe that but he's improved a lot defensively.

And you don't have to be a leader to be a good player. It's a huge bonus but it's definitely not a deciding factor.

I agree with you.
Nobody says Weber is the best right-shooting d or Chara is the best left-shooting d. I feel like a winger is a winger.

If we draft a mother blue chip Defenseman and an elite goaltending prodigy and give them 5 years of development time we should be okay. So...2+5 years?

So an overall top wingers list...who would you have in the top 10?

NOT in any specific order, mine would be Patty Kane, Hall, Nash, Benn, Perry, Ovechkin, Parise, Kessel, Zetterberg, D. Sedin.

Perry, P.Kane, Parise, Nash, Ovechkin, Benn, Zetterberg(plays C), Hall, Kessel, Pavelski(plays c).

I could throw Voracek, Okposo, D. Sedin or Sharp in there as well.

I used to think Garth Snow as a GM was crazy but in one season he adds:
Forwards: Grabo and Kulemin; Defence: Boychuk and Leddy; and Goaltenders: Halak and Johnson

And Presto, NYI move from last in Metropolitan to first.
