Kevin Lowe is a prime reason you're in the mess you're in!! As a small example, in 2011 they picked Daivd Musil, because his father worked for the Oilers I'm guessing, instead of picking a kid like Boone Jenner who was ranked top 30 and had a great to very good scouting report on him...this is why you're in this mess.

"The fourth overall selection from the 2009 OHL Priority Draft averaged more than a point per game in regular season and playoff action, including seven goals in ten playoff games. Strengths - Exemplary work ethic and leadership qualities, fights through everything. Strong desire to succeed, has a physical edge to his game. Keen hockey sense, above average vision, anticipation and playmaking abilities, plays in all situations. Weaknesses - Skating is not great, short stride and a wide track, can't stop and start very well. NHL Upside - Will be a favourite of his coaches wherever he plays. Has the desire to succeed that leads most to believe he will overcome skating deficiencies. Will likely wear a letter for an NHL team some day."

That was the GM's pick. Steve Tambellini.

Why should any of our goalies listen to Frédéric Chabot anyway? He was absolutely horrible in the NHL. What could he possibly do to help our goalies? Maybe by telling them what not to do I guess? Why can't we get a retired goalie who was actually good?
- laughs2907

Well by that logic why should the Wings listen to Mike Babcock?

Kevin Lowe - 2013 - but is it really any better?

Lowe: “I’ll just add a piece to that, John. You know, fair question. We have two types of fans. We have paying customers and we have people that watch the game that we still care about, but certainly the people who go to the games and support, we spend a lot of time talking to them, delivering our message. I would, uh, I think it’s safe to say that half the general manager’s in the National Hockey League would trade their roster for our roster right now. And in terms of the group that messed things up (voice rising) you’re talking about the group that had the team one period away from winning the Stanley Cup.”

MacKinnon: “Seven years ago.”

Lowe: “And you know the cycle of that. You know we chased the dream a few year for our fanbase. Like a lot of teams do. And then at some point in that time frame we realized that’s a bad plan and we made a change. We’re finishing year three of that plan. Now you say to me you’re getting impatient after three years?”

MacKinnon: “It’s not me. It’s the fans that are getting impatient.”

Lowe: “And lastly (talking loudly now) I’ll say that there’s one other guy in hockey today that is still working in the game that has won more Stanley Cups than me. So I think I know a little bit about winning, if there’s ever a concern.”

4 coaches in 5 years suggests problems beyond the coaching staff.
- lumlums

4 coaches in 5 years tells you how bad senior management has performed. Clean out the whole ship.
Hiring Eakins was a mistake. Inexperienced GM, Coach and Core players = the current fiasco.
Start at the top.

Because no one but trolls has ever asked whether he's the problem before, he now believes that Hall is the problem.
- Morris

Morris, I'm not gonna tell you again that I don't think he is the problem. But trading him could fix the team and I refuse to label him as untouchable, no matter how popular he is.

Just watched a video of the oilers getting booed to their dressing room in the tunnel. Part of me thinks it's good and deserved. The other part thinks we will never sign another ufa

Robin Lehner, Marc Methot and Zack Smith for Hall and Scrivens.

Oilers get their #1 goalie, a top pairing D-man, and a gritty 3rd line centre.

- maaddmike

Robin Lehner is far from a proven #1 goalie and Marc Methot is not a first pairing defensemen on a good team. That would be a breathtakingly horrible trade.

Nobody knows what he would have done in the NHL as a player.

But seriously, I have no problem giving the guy a shot... But he's been horrible as a goalie coach.

Hire Messier as the attitude coach.

Or offer Pronger x million per year to show up once every two weeks and shout at the players in the locker room.

The strange thing about that was Eakins comment at the end of his presser about how proud he was of the fans and then took a thinly veiled shot at Toronto. The presser was over, all he had to do was walk off stage, but he couldn't resist the urge to be a jackass. Eakins has a ton of problems as a coach but one of the biggest is just his personality. I've never seen a coach with a bigger mouth who's accomplished so little.

The focus now should not be on trades (there are too many holes) but rather on acquiring a management and coaching staff that have a proven record of helping young players develop.
- redwolf

No. We need a new coach but we don't have the right pieces either.
