Monahan, Granlund off the top of my head. But once again when you are the 1st overall pick you are many time expected to come in and have a meaningful impact! The team has progressively gotten worse with Nuge getting top minutes.

Can I count as an Oiler fan for this question because I had season tickets in Edmonton from 2007 to 2011? My answer is a big 'NO'

we will never have a franchise defenseman like webber or a doughty or a chara. We simply have not drafted a sure thing like that. What we need is a #2 through free agency or trade and get him on a good contract. Then, we pray that Nurse develops into a #1 one day, but to not count on it happening. And over the next 5-7 years while we have 2 #2 dmen we just wait to see if we can package our non-drafted #2 D plus a 1st and a good prospect for a #1 D on a team thats looking to rebuild and/or shed salary.

The fate of the oilers right now is resting on darnell nurse and mac T's ability to acquire a #2 or higher defenseman sometime in the next 3 years. Center is a problem, but we only really need a good #3 C, which shouldn't be too difficult.

Hamilton as #1d. And contrary to that Chara sheltering him crap, Chara has been hurt pretty much all year and Hamilton is still progressing very well. Nuge has not shown enough to be considered the #1 centre of the future.

Well unless MacT gets some balls and does something to right away this ship (which he wont)- we are done for this year anyway- therefore may very well end up with McDavid or Eichel anyway- at that time I guess this 1C and 2C can sort itself right

If we are going to lose bad this year, the only way it can mean anything is if we walk away with McDavid or Eichel or Hanfin. A bottom 5 finish, which is looking likely, will mean fairly good odds of that happening. And, while the oilers may not be trying to lose this year, we do need another high quality center prospect and D D prospect. Losing this year may actually be a good thing, considering the depth of this class. But seriously, this is the last time ok? Otherwise I'm really breaking up with you next time. For serious. No really, I mean it....stop laughing....

ok seriously. If Im a Gm and I step up there with the #1 pick and select the guy who is ranked #9, I might as well resign right then and there. With the #3 pick...maybe I could do that. But not with a #1. Im sorry, but that is the reality of the #1 pick. You are saying Hamilton is #1 now, and you might be right. If hamilton was #2 ranked, maybe the oilers take him. But he wasnt. Move on.

Monohan scored some goals last year, what else has he done? He is far from a complete player and has as many warts as Nuge, is bigger, but not as skilled.

Not when your team is in dire need of a #1 D and had been drafting forwards like they were going out of style with their #1 picks. Again they are where they are now because of poor drafting pretty much across the board from 07-12. Hall, Nurse, Draisaitl, and Klefbom should be the only untouchables on this team.

Not the question again. Only was who else is playing as a 1st centre. If you had today Gagner, and Draisaitl as opposed to Nuge, and Draisaitl, but had drafted a stud D or even had used the Nuge pick as a trade for a stud D would the Oilers be any worse off then they are now in your opinion?
