Eakins can lay blame at the feet of his "big players" all he wants but if you're giving up close to 20 odd man rushes and have one of the most porous defensive systems I've ever seen you're not going to win.

The Canucks played well in the first, they were on their game, but then they fell into a sloppy game to match their opposition the final 40 minutes. Makes for a good show for the fans but a coaches nightmare. (for us)

I'm trying to learn about hockey systems a little more than I know now.

How can you tell it's a problem inherent with the system and not the execution/reads that allowed all those rushes?

I have no ulterior motives here, I'm seriously just asking.

Wondering if you've changed your mind about Purcell from last blog considering he pretty much ran the show offensively last night.

The Oilers are a poor mans Islanders. Nuge is no Tavares and their defense is even worse if such a thing is possible! The Islanders finally woke up and signed decent goal tending and serviceable dmen. The Oilers seem to think that it's all going to come together magically for them if they just have patience... Not only that but they seem to draft with wrong players with their 1st picks. Aside from Hall, it can be argued that selecting Nuge and Yak were mistakes that potentially set the franchise back for years.

Any thoughts?

I didn't bother reading it. I guess the title suggests that one team is getting better while the other is not. I disagree. Both teams are getting better.at much different rates.

MacT wanted to make bold moves but let's face it, he has no balls at all.

If he did, that bold move would have happened the first 6 months on the job.

He has said repeatedly how the defense needs to improve, how the Oilers need a top pairing blueliner yet he continues to shutdown any trade involving Ebs, Yak, Hall or RNH.

Make a bold move, offer up Ebs & the 1st in 2015 to land a guy like OEL & a pick or something along those lines - that's being bold & that's what it's going to take to acquire a top defenceman in the league. Teams knows this & the price is very high on these type players & it should be because defense wins championships!!

And if he's scared to offer up the 1st this year, then it just proves MacT has already caved in & realized it's another losing year!!

- newmy

How the (frank) would you know what MacTaint offered in trade? You say he's scared, but how do you he didn't offer up Eberle and our 1st for a 1 Dman? The other GM's have a say also, you know?

What does your buddy Dregger think?

It could be argued but really, why bother?

"Through 20 games of the 2014-15 season, Calgary has forged more character, displayed more courage and earned more league-wide respect than the Oilers have since they drafted Taylor Hall first overall in 2010. Calgary plays like they expect to win. In Edmonton, it’s “How are we going to blow this one?” "

Exactly. I don't want to hear anyone talking about how we should have taken Landeskog.

There's no way we'd be better off than we are now with two LW 1st overalls.

And if you believe an entire rebuild (8 years and counting according to some) can be undone by picking Yak instead of Murray/Galchenyuk (and their >130 NHL games each) then I don't know what to say.

The failure in rebuilding has to do with failing to keep/bring in impact veterans at Defense and in a variety of forward positions including centre.

Did Dreger tell you that MacT hasn't tried to make moves? Ask Dreger if perhaps the problem is, the pieces the Oilers need aren't available or maybe in the pieces that are available have NMC that won't waive to come to Edmonton.
- Al Hacker

LOL...ask MacT that actually the pieces are available if this BOLD GM of yours would have some balls & offer up Ebs & the 2015 1st for OEL.

If you think the Yotes aren't going to listen to an offer like that, you're on glue!!
