It's believed Giroux blocked shot in practice Monday. It was originally feared he broke his foot but it's not that serious. Or so it seems.

Nothing to be concerned with here at all. Especially with the way the Coburn situation was handled.

Didn't Hextall go on a rant about skate guards the other day?

Meh, doesn't bother me. Howe was still effective, but his injuries limited his ability to be a regular by then.

He probably wasn't trying to block a shot in practice, but guys get hit all the time in the skates with pucks. If he was blasted on the foot I'm sure there is a good amount of swelling. Sometimes an x-ray won't show a fracture if there is swelling in the area. The entire thing seems really strange.

yeah, that's exactly what I'm getting at.

there is zero point to be blocking shots in practice without skateguards. especially in the case of our star player.

I find it hard to believe that Giroux was intentionally trying to block a shot in practice.

I'm sure he wasn't. The puck just found his foot.

Maybe so but until the Flyers say otherwise it's the only explanation we've got.

I hope they leave Laughton in, bench Umberger

I think there's two ways to look at it. This team has a max of what it can accomplish with the roster as is, and I think they can be a playoff team. We all know that to get where they need to get to long term, there's still moves that need to be made, and patience for the younger players to develop.
- MJL

If I can give Hextall any credit, it's the way he drafts and how he plans to bring along young players, I love it. I would have been tempted to have Laughton start the season with the Flyers and I would have been tempted to give Morin a nine game look.

With this said, I'm far from looking to give up on any players within development or looking for a splash, although I'd look into Chris Stewart. I'm thinking more along the lines of a year ago with Talbot and Downie. I thought it was a good trade at the right time. I thought the deal along with the Emery fight lit a fire underneath the team.

Looks like Akeson is out, per the beat guys at MSG. VinnyBurger gets a side of French fries.

Yes Rinaldo is nothing more than a fourth liner but sadly he's playing better than Umberger and we have no other options at left wing. Akeson's skill set is not suited for the fourth line, he needs some offensive opportunity. Might as well see what Laughton is capable of while he's up and Giroux is out. Bill Meltzer mentions tonights line combo's and they are starting Rinoldo on the third line whether you like it or not and Umberger on the first line!!! Read isn't doing anything right now so it might be wise to try him with someone else.
- dubc55

I don't think Akeson is anything special and Rinaldo is playing well within a fourth line role, which says very little. I'm down on Umberger and Read but they're proven NHL players who need to play through any issues they might have. Lecavalier too.

I will be in Detroit to see the Flyer face off with Wings. I expect Lecavalier to get hurt within the next week anyway.

How many guys have they lost because of pucks to feet this year? Unbelievable.

Absolutely can't wait until Tortarella hockey goes out of style.
