From Friedman's 30 thoughts:
"14. Not sure Edmonton can afford to be as patient in net. Wondered about an Ilya Bryzgalov return, but that appears unlikely. They are looking to see what’s out there, but Oilers are being careful. There’s no point in a short-term move for long-term cost either in goal or at centre."

Who would be an available goalie? Cam Ward might work as he is playing to his skill level right now. If we could pry something else out of there it might be worth a look. Other than that who? Niemi? Anderson? Harding when he is healthy?

#MNWild Darcy Kuemper's appearance today is the last he can make while exempt from waivers, according to our calculations.

Harding, Kuemper, and Backstrom on the roster now. Someone is getting traded or Kuemper can now be claimed unless they plan on rolling with 3 goalies

Aren't Harding/Kuemper another Scrivens/Fasth?

Goalies are temperamental bumholes and I don't buy into the hype that they're anything worth building a team around.

#1 dmen are different.

But there are options out there instead of resigning Bryz again if a goalie change is felt like a move that needs to be made.

Kuemper is a good goalie in the making but is meaningless if you claim him and don't hire the appropriate goalie coaches to groom him

Harding or Niemi I'd say. Or sitting still

The 13 million added to the Oilers payroll this year, Purcell, Nikitin, Pouloit.... was not a good investment.....

I'd sit still. Either we get an elite starter like a Rinne or Bishop or we are just trading for the sake of trading.

It wasn't 13 million added though. Purcell came in a trade for Gagner, so we actually saved 300k.

More broadly, Nikitin replaced Schultz's 3.5 million and Pouliot replaced Jones' 1.5 million, so that's only 3.2 million total ADDED for those three players.

Probably. He's definetly a top 5 in the league right now the way he is playing. He has taken a poop team and put them on his back. Along with hiller obviously. And he's doing something none of our d men can do. Make their partner better (Brodie in his case).
- JasonDh

Obviously gio has helped Brodie's development but Brodie seems to have the numbers to back him actually making others better ...the guy is having a breakout year so far

Surprised that in just 5 games, Aulie was a +4 with us.

He's the only defenseman on our team who is afraid to skate it through all 9 guys in front of him so he just dumps it down and the forwards go get it.

I kinda disagree, since dmen-initiated zone entries/exits have been a pretty weak spot for our team. Part of that is due to attempts where we end up turning the puck over, but I would bet we have far fewer dman carries than other teams. It's not something many of them even attempt.

I was just being sarcastic. We never have defense carry the puck yet many other teams win the draw to their defense and have them skate it up and dump it in so that all 3 forwards can forecheck and outnumber down low.
